[Amazon Echo] Multi-room music

Solved!

[Amazon Echo] Multi-room music

What is the timeline for Spotify to support Amazons new Multi-room music feature?

As the last update just came out this week, there will be problems and connection bugs.

But all this week I tried it and it works randomly. It lloks like a Spotify Christmas Gift for Alexa echosystems users. I have 6 echo dot and 1 Echo Plus

Had multi room music working fine, added my echo show to the group and spotify won't play for the group anymore. As soon as I remove the echo show, it works again. Tried via voice and using the app, the group actually disappears from the spotify app as soon as I add the echo show.

Any else experiencing similar issues?

Have you tried deleting the group and setting it back up from scratch? I don't have an Echo Show, but was having similar issues. I deleted group and remade it and it was fixed.

Hey,

i have two echo dots. One in the living room and one in the kitchen. The kitchen one is hooked up to an amp and into the ceiling speakers.

i have created a downstairs group and when I say “play whatever downstairs” I get no sound. I’ve deleted and recreated the group but still no sound output on both dots.

Update: Music from Amazon plays fine. Spotify no dice. Any ideas on how to resolve this please?

Anyone lend a hand?

thank you

So the group works in the spotify app but when I ask Alexa is says groups not supported by spotify. What am I missing??

Feature ready and running since December 22TH.

Tested! It is working.

Merry Christmas

I'm having the exact same issue.  Multiroom audio via Spotify doesn't work if the Echo Show is part of the group.

I found a solution. Finally. If you navigate to the settings on the echo show directly and update the software (even though it said it had already been done) you’ll see a new update.

Install that and it should work fine.

Try deleting the everywhere group (or whatever you named it) then recreate it.

Still trying and not able to get spotify to play on my Everywhere group. For whatever reason spotify plays on each dot - kitchen and living room - but when I play on everywhere I get no output. Amazon music plays fine playing everywhere.

I looked in the settings and I found this. It seems for everywhere, it says Spotify isn't able to connect but for each seperate device it's fine.

Any ideas?

I've tried deleting and creating new groups. I've tried removing spotify and enabling it again. But no joy. Pulling what little hair I have left out!

To get this to work you need to confirm all the Echo's which are part of the group are on the most recent software versions found here https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201602210. If the Echo isn't you will need to wait for the update - best way to get the update to occur is to mute your Echos and not use the app for at least 2 hours. It should update in that period of time. With Echo Show you can force an update manually.

This was the solution for me. As soon as the Echo Show received the
software update, the multi-room on Spotify started working.

This has been working phenomenally for me now for at least two weeks. I plan to keep spotify now. Furthermore if you're on PC or your phone, from within the Spotify app you can have Spotify play to your echo group without commanding Alexa which is awesome if you  have people over...

Mine both have the same firmware version and i have premium spotify (trial) but it won't let me play in multi-room

Have you created a group within the alexa app?

I have two Echo Dots- both updated with the latest software version, I also have Spotify premium membership. Spotify-Multi music is working fine regardless of whether I start streaming directly from my mobile app or Desktop. On Mobile app- one thing worth noting is that you need to make sure under settings->Devices menu, "show local devices menu" option is unchecked- seems counter intuitive but that's how you can get the app to see your Alexa Groups or individual Echo devices. Hope this helps.

This issue is FIXED as of 27th december 2017!   Update spotify and the alexa app and you can now select the group you made for "Multi music" via spotify connect. Works great and good to see amazon and spotify got their act together....i was going to invest in sonos but actually...this works great now and is good enough and MUCH cheaper!

I'm not having as much luck with this as the others on this thread. I have
1 Echo and 3 dots set up in a group. I can get it to start playing to all
the speakers either through the Spotify app or an Alexa command. But after
a few minutes, the 3 dots cut out and the Echo continues to play. At that
point, if I switch the music to any other Echo or dot, then switch it back
to my "Downstairs" group, it starts playing the group again - but then
repeats the cycle of playing for about 5 minutes, then all the dots cutting
out.

I was trying to use this feature for our New Years Eve party last night,
but had to give up and go back to playing on a single device.

Using MultiRoom on two Echo (2nd Generation) devices. It works well when it's working but I had the MultiRoom functionality drop twice today. The "MultiRoom" setting disappears completely from the device list when it drops. I can play Spotify on each Echo or other device separately but MultiRoom is gone. Rebooting the Echo's and the Alexa app restores, and the MultiRoom setting reappears and works.

Both Echo's are on the latest firmware versions and the Alexa app was updated yesterday.

Wonder if others are experiencing or if we have a bug somewhere.  I repositioned one of the Echo's to see if the internet is dropping there, but we'll see.

Edit: Had the MultiRoom drop again today so there must be a bug somewhere. Curious if anyone else is having problems with it.

Here is my experience so far with Multi-room music feature and spotify (I have 2 Amazon Dots connected to speakers via cable i.e. No Bluetooth):

- My setup is one dot for the family room, another for outside and a group called Everywhere that includes both.

- During the set-up/test process- On one occassion, I had it on Everywhere (and music playing to both) but oddly enough could not see the individual Dots in my spotify desktop/mobile app. With trial and error, I found the best fix to simply unlink from my spotify account and re-link and then it was fine. Note that in the Amazon app, I could see the individual dots but not on spotify desktop/mobile app!

- I used the multi-room music feature for our New Year party. It was a relative success with the following caveat: Most frustrating was the long delay/lag between taking an action (next track, etc) on spotify app (mobile or deskop) vs. when you would hear the new selection. I don't have the highest bandwidth DSL service at home but I wasn't streaming anything else either so I don't think the issue is my BW at home. I'm guessing it was the overall network congestion on New Year's Eve when a lot of folks are streaming music, etc- going up to the cloud to spotify servers and then back down to individual dots.- The same set-up is working just fine right now w/o any lag/interruption hence my theory about network congestion.
