My Question or Issue
Everytime I open the app it switches playback to repeat/loop. It's not much of an issue if I hit play on a playlist. But I generally don't use playlists except at work. When I search a song and click it to play, its automatically on repeat. Since the "playlist" for one song is well... One song. That means it defaults to repeating the same song. I know the "solution" is to just uncheck the loop. But it's a hassle to open the player and change it every single time I start the app with a new session. And I'm usually not thinking about that. I'm thinking "I wanna listen to Torna a Casa and the rest of the songs the algorithm suggests like it." And it makes it essentially impossible to start listening hands free.
Screenshots of behavior and settings.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for posting in this thread! We appreciate your patience here while this is being looked into.
Just to confirm, does this happens when listening directly from the Spotify app on your phone or PC? Or does it only occur when listening in the car via Bluetooth?
And to help our teams with the investigation, we will need some more details. It would be great if you could send us the following (if you haven't already):
Does this happen to every song or is it intermittent? Any patterns on when this happen? (i.e. when app starts for the first time).
We'll keep an eye out for your replies!

My Question or Issue
I recently upgraded my device to a Samsung S25+. Ever since switching, I've been having issues with Auto Play working reliably when on cellular. If I start playback while I have Wifi (at home or at work), things will work UNTIL I choose a new song or playlist. At that point it will be stuck there, with Repeat enabled and it will not let me disable repeat. This is very frustrating, as I will often pick a song and let Autoplay run while I'm driving. I can't be listening to the same song on repeat and trying to queue up a new song while driving has obvious safety issues.
I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling, clearing the cache, cycling every offline/online option in the app that I can find. I have disabled every feature in android that could limit Spotify's ability to use mobile data (data saver, battery saver, everything). What is very strange is that it will let me search for and play songs that I have never listened to before (so they shouldn't be downloaded or cached), but it will not let me disable repeat in order for Autoplay to work.
This is very frustrating - I'm considering canceling my Spotify subscription if I can't get this issue resolved. There's no point in keeping it if the one thing I need it to do can't work.
This has been happening to me for months. I've cleared the cache and logged out but repeat still turns back on by itself. How can I solve this?
Hey folks,
Thanks for all your replies and for the info sharing.
We can confirm we continue investigating this behavior. If you haven't yet, please send all the info mentioned by @Maria here. That way, we can pass all the details onto the right team.
Keep us in the loop!
Hey everyone,
In addition to the above details, can you also give us the exact steps to reproduce the issue as our tech team is having trouble recreating it? (e.g. starting the playback from search results or a playlist, being connected to your car/smart speaker/Bluetooth, etc.)
The more details you provide, the easier it will be for the team to investigate this.
Cheers,
This bug occurs consistently when connected by Bluetooth to a car audio system. It seems to happen if my android phone is connected and either I open Spotify and play music or music auto-plays because I got in the car and the app is running in the background when the Bluetooth connects
Asus Zenfone 10
Android 35.0604.0404.109
Spotify 9.0.62.622
Any time I connect to my 2015 Ford Focus SE Sync system via bluetooth, Spotify immediately activates repeat and will not allow me to turn it off. If I press the repeat button, it switches from repeat all to repeat song. If I press the button again, it just goes back to repeat all. As soon as I disconnect bluetooth, I am able to turn off repeat completely. This is incredibly frustrating.
Hi Maria, this is a problem for me. Whenever I listen to an album, it automatically starts playing the same album when I get to the end of it, which is extremely annoying. I've tried clearing the cache, and logging off and on, but it's still doing it. I am an Iphone SE user.
Hi Spotify Team,
I’m a long-time Spotify user and really appreciate everything the app does — but I wanted to make a small feature request that I think would improve the user experience for many of us.
Currently, the repeat function tends to re-enable itself after being turned off, especially when returning to a playlist after doing something else in the app. This makes it hard to truly enjoy large playlists on shuffle, as the same few songs keep coming up repeatedly.
Would you consider adding an option to permanently disable the repeat feature (or at least remember our repeat setting across sessions)? Having this level of control would make listening much smoother and more personalized.
Thanks for listening, and keep up the great work!
I cannot believe this is still an issue...
The issue is so easily reproducible. What more info do you need?!
I've never turned on repeat on purpose, but after connecting my phone via Android Auto or any Bluetooth source (usually a car's audio system), repeat is magically switched on.
This has been happening consistently to me for well over 12 months.
Same here. I recently connected my iPhone 11 to my 2017 Suzuki Baleno. Since then the repeat function is stuck and it’s driving me insane. I have a standard (family) Spotify subscription. Don’t come back with ‘it’s a car issue’. I have spent too much time trying to find a solution online to know it’s not. Please, please fix this.
Listening in my car via mobile app, Version 9.0.76.1126, device running Android 15, build V1UMS35H.10-67-7-2, I was able to reproduce the issue with the following steps:
Case 1: While listening to music or when playback paused with repeat inactive (phone unlocked and Spotify app open), disconnect Bluetooth by either turning BT off via quick settings (sliding down to get notifications) or by selecting "disconnect all" in car radio. Keep the app open and device unlocked. Reconnect BT by either switching it on via quick settings or selecting "connect all" car radio. As soon as BT connection is re-established, music starts playing (autoplay) and the repeat function activates itself.
Case 2: While listening to music or when playback paused with repeat inactive (phone unlocked and Spotify app open), disconnect Bluetooth by either turning BT off via quick settings (sliding down to get notifications) or by selecting "disconnect all" in car radio. Pressing home button to minimize app. Reconnect BT by either switching it on via quick settings or selecting "connect all" car radio. As soon as BT connection is re-established, music starts playing (autoplay) and the repeat function activates itself.
Case 3: While listening to music or when playback paused with repeat inactive (phone unlocked and Spotify app open), disconnect Bluetooth by either turning BT off via quick settings (sliding down to get notifications) or by selecting "disconnect all" in car radio. Pressing home button to minimize app, then slide down to get notifications area, where I swipe the media control notification away. Reconnect BT by either switching it on via quick settings or selecting "connect all" car radio. As soon as BT connection is re-established, music starts playing (autoplay) and the repeat function activates itself.
Note: While listening to music above means, I was either playing a playlist or "playing from search". In the latter, after reconnection it just shows "playing song" at the top. The issue doesn't seem to occur when the app is "laying recommended songs". There it's not even possible to activate repeat or repeat song function at all.
Also in all three cases described above, the volume resets itself from all the way up to lower level (approx 50%).
In the following case, still listening in car, the repeat function did not activate itself after reconnection:
Case 4: While listening to music or when playback paused with repeat inactive (phone unlocked and Spotify app open), disconnect Bluetooth by either turning BT off via quick settings (sliding down to get notifications) or by selecting "disconnect all" in car radio. Swiping up on home button to see recent/opened apps and swipe up on Spotify to close the app. Reconnect BT by either switching it on via quick settings or selecting "connect all" car radio. As soon as BT connection is re-established, music starts playing (autoplay) and the repeat function is still off.
I was not able to reproduce this behaviour with my bluetooth headphones. Seems this might be somehow linked to the autoplay function, since my headphones don't send autoplay command after reconnection. Using the headphones, I have to manually open the app (if closed in between) and press play.
Hope this helps finding the issue. It's a pity having missed out on so many recommendated songs and having listened repeatedly to the same playlists for such a long time already.
Help this is happening to me too. Got a new car, 2015 BMW i8 and it’s started happening. Seems to be all old Spotify bug, I’ve been a customer since 2015 but now might be time to switch. It’s doing my head in
Hi there everyone,
Thanks for all the replies and the information provided.
We've passed everything you've given us onto the appropriate team. Be advised however that we cannot say for certain at the moment when or if this is going to get addressed, but rest assured we're going to keep this issue on our radar.
Cheers!
Hi,
I have started having this problem as well, here's some info and I hope it could be helpful.
I suspect the update to Android 15 to be the cause of this in my case, as this is the only change that has happened recently.
1. Behavior:
- When listening to music in the Car (Bluetooth / Ford Focus 2017) the "Repeat" keeps turning on and it's impossible to turn it off. (not repeat 1 track, but repeat whole album / playlist)
- When I turn it off - it turns back on right away
- There is not option in the car for "Repeat"
- There is an option to enable "Shuffle" or "Repeat Track" - both of these work fine
- But even if they are both disabled - Spotify still keeps "Repeat" enabled while connected to the car
- This does not happen with Bluetooth headphones or when playing on the Phone / Computer without Bluetooth
2. My thoughts:
- The car media FW has not been updated since I have that car (almost 4 years)
- The Android just got updated to Android 15 on my phone, seems the only major change in the setup and might have introduced changes in the Bluetooth / Media logic that influence this behavior.
- If the root cause is found and guarded - it would be great. If that's too hard because of too many OS versions and car media FW versions that might be doing a bunch of different things, and doing them differently - then I think it would be easiest to add an option to keep Repeat Off / do not allow repeat to be turned on by external (external to Spotify) control or do not allow Repeat to be turned on at all. I have never used repeat for all the years I've used Spotify, but this new bug is driving me crazy... If I just disable Repeat completely from Spotify settings it would be an easy solution.
3. Version info:
- Spotify 9.0.78.1116
- Android 15 (Motorola Edge 40 Neo)
