My Question or Issue

Everytime I open the app it switches playback to repeat/loop. It's not much of an issue if I hit play on a playlist. But I generally don't use playlists except at work. When I search a song and click it to play, its automatically on repeat. Since the "playlist" for one song is well... One song. That means it defaults to repeating the same song. I know the "solution" is to just uncheck the loop. But it's a hassle to open the player and change it every single time I start the app with a new session. And I'm usually not thinking about that. I'm thinking "I wanna listen to Torna a Casa and the rest of the songs the algorithm suggests like it."  And it makes it essentially impossible to start listening hands free.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for posting in this thread! We appreciate your patience here while this is being looked into.

Just to confirm, does this happens when listening directly from the Spotify app on your phone or PC? Or does it only occur when listening in the car via Bluetooth?

And to help our teams with the investigation, we will need some more details. It would be great if you could send us the following (if you haven't already):

  • The make, model and OS version of your device(s).
  • Current Spotify version.
  • Does this happen to every song or is it intermittent? Any patterns on when this happen? (i.e. when app starts for the first time).

  • If possible, a short video showing how things look from your end (just make sure it doesn't include personal info). Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive.

We'll keep an eye out for your replies!

This bug is infuriating and continues to happen. I have never set any playlist to repeat after it finishes. Every time my alarm triggers, the next time I use spotify whatever I play is set to repeat. I never want this behavior. I have tried deleting and recreating the alarm aftering checking that the playlist I've chosen (my liked songs) is not set to repeat. It does not make a difference. I have an Android device on the latest version of Android and of Spotify. Please fix this. It is one of two Spotify bugs that I have to deal with literally every day and so, so tiresome.

So it's March 2025 and the bug keeps going on and on and on... !  Is it really a bug?!

This issue is happening on my Samsung S24FE. The problem seems to be getting worse rather than better. So annoying...

Like any company that starts off great. They get popular, wealthy and successful. There is however a points where they own the market. After this period they stopped caring about customer service this is the same reason that people hate Spotify for not having a true shuffle and they could easily fix the issue but don't because they don't care.

This just started happening to me!! Extremely frustrating. I am on Android Google Pixel 8 Pro, version 9.0.28.630 from the play store. Appreciate your help in resolving this! Is there a version we can revert to that works properly?

I SOLVED MY ISSUE! This seems minor enough that it's probably not the solution for everybody, but in case it helps some: my problem was that I had an alarm set to a Spotify playlist! This was (apparently, through my trial and error), turning my repeat on every time the alarm went off. It seems like a bug that Spotify automatically turns on repeat when playing an alarm through the android clock app, but you can fix it by using, for example, Youtube Music for your alarm (or hopefully spotify can fix the feature one day).

Very interesting. I don't have alarms set to use Spotify though, so it does seem like a unique solution.

Good luck. It's been this way for over 2 years.

TWO. YEARS.

It happens all the time, in any situation, for over 2 years now, even when I've gotten a new phone and set it up from scratch. It happens with Bluetooth speakers. It happens with Google home speakers. It happens in the car. It happens at home. It's even happened when listening on my phone. This is starting to sound like Green Eggs and Ham. I do not like it, Sam. I do not like when playlists play again.

As per title, repeat keeps turning on on my phone. Work phone is not affected but when my personal phone's Spotify turns on, it will then transfer to web player or work phone. Playlists (albums, playlists, discover weekly etc) will automatically turn on repeat immediately after I have deselected it. As such I am not graduating into song radio or recommended tracks

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the replies.

We just wanted to let you all know that we are still looking into this issue and looking for a fix. You'll be informed of any updates if and when we have them.

In the meantime, can you all confirm the following - does this issue occur on mobile in general or only when connected to a car or some other device? @Joseph333 might also be on to something, so consider testing the steps about alarms and letting us know if the same fix works for you as well. This will definitely help us narrow down the issue.

Cheers!

This only happens to me in my Audi and my Wife’s Volkswagen. Never happened in my previous Nissan. Only happens when using mobile, connected to Bluetooth in the car.

very minor but still very annoying. Hopefully they find a fix soon

This happens to me as well, every time my Phone (Motorola Edge 50 pro, Android 15, V1UMS35H.10-67-3-1) connects to my car (Subaru 2017).

My Question or Issue

For the first time in months, last week I was able to search a song and have similar music played automatically after the searched song. Now this week, it is back to repeating the searched song. Autoplay IS turned on.

Hey @Monsterfish and anyone else still affected by this,

Could you let us know if the issue is currently present only when you connect to a vehicle or if it happens regardless of this as well? Take a look at the latest post from @Joan for further details 🙂
Much appreciated!

This bug is still very present. Happening to me in the car (bluetooth or android auto), connecting to a spotify connect device or to bluetooth speakers / earphones.

This issue has been happening to me since a couple of months ago. It's a major annoyance. It happens seemingly randomly.

This thread is 8 pages long, do something about it Spotify. Stop adding features nobody wants and fix the existing problems. Your investors arent the only ones paying you, WE ARE.

This is more of a bug report than an idea but it seems like the issue reporting has changed since I last looked.

The issue:

When playing a playlist, repeat will randomly become enabled automatically when the playlist starts. I've noticed this both on the mobile app (Android) and desktop versions (Mac). It may not be exclusive to playlists but I seem to notice it most often when playing playlists (most recently Release Radar).

Associated issue:

If you encounter the above issue and don't happen to notice that repeat was toggle on and then go to listen to podcasts, there is no button to toggle repeat off in the player. The only way that I am aware of is to go back to music content and play something and then the repeat button will appear in the player.

Suggestions:

1. Don't turn on repeat without the user explicitly clicking the button OR make it a setting so users who might want that functionality can opt in

2. Make the repeat button always visible in the player so that if a user is listening to music on repeat and then listens to a podcast, it can be turned off without interrupting the listening experience.

Thanks

Yes, still getting it.
