My Question or Issue
Everytime I open the app it switches playback to repeat/loop. It's not much of an issue if I hit play on a playlist. But I generally don't use playlists except at work. When I search a song and click it to play, its automatically on repeat. Since the "playlist" for one song is well... One song. That means it defaults to repeating the same song. I know the "solution" is to just uncheck the loop. But it's a hassle to open the player and change it every single time I start the app with a new session. And I'm usually not thinking about that. I'm thinking "I wanna listen to Torna a Casa and the rest of the songs the algorithm suggests like it." And it makes it essentially impossible to start listening hands free.
Screenshots of behavior and settings.
Hey there folks,
Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to post their details in the thread. We really appreciate the cooperation and have forwarded the info to the relevant team. They'll be investigating and as soon as we have an update, we'll let you know.
In the meantime, make sure to keep Spotify up-to-date and the Community's here if you need help with anything else.

Thought I was going crazy until I found this thread. Have had the same issue for months. Considering switching to a different streaming service because of that.
Same! I’m glad it’s not just me, but they need to get this fixed already if it’s affecting so many people.
This problem happens when I connect to my car Bluetooth. It is ford SYNC. As soon as it connects to my car repeat comes on Spotify and you can't turn it off it just comes back on instantly. It is so annoying because it then stays on so I have to remember to turn it off when I'm not in my car. I have tried clean reinstall, clearing the cache, everything that has been suggested and I've also checked that my car itself doesn't have some sort of repeat feature enabled. This issue never used to be there it has been new in the past 3 or 4 months. I had the same car and phone before that and it never happened before. There doesn't seem to be any solutions being offered by Spotify and I see A LOT of people with the same exact issue.

Spotify version 8.9.44.368
I also have the same behavior with Ford Sync
Same issue. Also on Ford SYNC with a S23
I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and 2021 Ford Escape with Sync. I always used Android Auto in the car. Whenever I switch to Spotify on the car screen and look at the repeat setting, it is always turned off.
It is only later, when I use Spotify directly on my phone, that I notice that repeat mode is turned on. I have not been able to link the issue to Ford Sync.
Please provide some steps on how to reproduce the issue with Ford Sync.
Are you using Android Auto or just connecting to Bluetooth in the car?
Ford here as well. I'm using an iPhone 13. I don't even have to be actively using Spotify either, although I'm sure it's running in the background. As soon as I plug my phone into my car, I can expect the repeat to be enabled in Spotify on my computer at home.
I don't believe this happens when I'm using the bluetooth connection. It seems to be only when plugging it in.
Same problem with iPhone 13 Pro during connection to my 2023 Seat ibiza (Bluetooth or CarPlay)
Phone Model & OS: iPhone 12
Spotify Version: 8.9.48.455
Troubleshooting: Contacted support, clean reinstall, restarted device, clean reinstall of Apple CarPlay.
It happens primarily on the Spotify App but it's also popping up on the Web Player from time to time. The issue seemed to start once I started using Apple CarPlay & it's making the app completely unusable. I don't want to leave Spotify but this is too frustrating to keep putting up with. Customer support offered no real solutions.

It's been 3 months since "the right folks" became aware of the situation and were "working on a solution". Any indication about when a fix will be pushed to the apps or is the plan to not address it any time soon? @oscarDC
@MihailY's response is not helpful either. Basically they are saying "Here's a link to the answer. Go find it yourself", which links to the post I'm reporting to. This issue seems to be happening when connected to a Bluetooth device.
Spotify is getting roasted on social media for their failure to fix this or even an implement a workaround.

I said I'd cancel if this wasn't fixed by July. Spotify might not care about my Duo membership but they'll reprioritize after enough cancellations.
That reddit thread seems to focus more on shuffle than repeat/loop, unless I missed something
If I squint, I'd say Spotify has a general problem remembering and honoring user preferences.
It's possible that the repeat bug is caused by an actual accident rather than Spotify's hostile decision to force a feature on their customer (supposedly smart shuffle doesn't turn off anymore on the free plan.)
Since Spotify & their representatives have failed to fix these issue or even properly acknowledge them to their community, I'm happy to call attention to the roasts for any reason.
I hear you 💯, and I share your sentiment.
