Play open.spotify.com URLs in desktop app setting not saving

When I click to play an embeded track, the web player still plays the audio instead of going to the desktop app even though I had open.spotify.com URLs in desktop app checked off. Then I go to my web player settings and I need to click the checkmark for Play open.spotify.com URLs in desktop app after not using Spotify for a few hours. The setting is not being saved. Could this issue be because Windows is not saving this setting in the registry?
