Podcasts not playing on PC

My Question or Issue

When I go to select a podcast to listen to, for example, "Dyl and Friends episode 87", it simply does not play and skips 5 episodes ahead, landing on episode 92. However, that episode also doesn't play. No matter what episode I click on, it will just skip 5 ahead but not play anything at all. It happens to a lot of the podcasts that i have tried! If i tried to add the podcast to a queue, once it is ready to play, it simply does nothing and nothing will play at all. This was an issue in the past that I experienced with the same PC, however it disappeared for a few months! Now it has come back and stayed around for 7 months now so i can't listen to any podcasts. It does work perfectly fine on my mobile device.

I’m also experiencing this problem. I’m using a ACER desktop and certain podcasts won’t play (desktop app) or they just skip through the episodes (web player). I’ve tried all the options mentioned above but nothing has worked.

Can you check if there are any pending updates for the desktop app? It's also a good idea to check if Spotify is allowed via the firewall, as well as flush DNS:

• At the bottom left corner of desktop, type 'cmd' in the Start menu's search bar, and press Enter.
• Type 'ipconfig /flushdns' in the Command Prompt, and press Enter.
• The user will be prompted with a message that they have successfully completed it.
• Restart Spotify app

When it comes to the Web Player, it'd be great if you can try opening it in a different browser than the one you're currently using, as well as checking if there are any browser updates and clearing the browsing data.

It's also a good idea to try connecting your device to a different network to see if the issue persists.

This is still an issue where most podcasts (like Pushkin Industries podcasts and most other popular podcasts) wont play on desktop(on Chrome or Edge browser) for a premium subscriber. The same podcasts will however play from the cell using the Spotify app. Interestingly, Free podcasts like those from NPR  play fine on desktop(on Chrome or Edge browser). I read through this thread and did all of the things mentioned but it wouldnt work. For now, assuming Spotify hasn't/doesnt-want-to fix this on browser/Desktop; so will continue litsening podcasts on the phone.

Thanks for reaching out!

Since you mentioned this happening on the Web Player, can you download the desktop app instead and try playing these podcasts there to see if the same issue occurs? It'd also be really helpful if you can send us links to the podcasts that aren't playing on the Web Player for you, so that we can test this out on our end as well?

Welcome to the thread!

Could you let us know if you're unable to play the podcast in the Spotify app, Web Player or in both? Is this issue happening with other podcasts as well or only this particular one? Are there any error messages?

Let us also know if you've performed any troubleshooting steps so far and if anything made a difference.

Lastly, it'd be great if you could send us the device(s) make(s), model(s) and OS-version(s) this is happening on, as well as the Spotify-version if this persists in the app.

Ahh So what I realized is I think I had to refresh the screen every time I
played the song because of the connection issue? im not sure I havent
revisited this issue in a while but found thats what was a work around when
it only played for 5 seconds and wouldnt play again.... soooo yeah good
