My Question or Issue

Recently while listening to Spotify on the Web Player, my music will stop completely randomly with no real cause. The progress bar simply stops moving even though it shows that it says it's playing. This tends to happen after listening for a while generally 1½-2 hours. After restarting or opening the Web Player in a new tab, the problem goes away for about 2-3 songs and then the same thing happens. The only solution I have found is to just not listen to Spotify for the rest of day and then it works again the next day but the problem keeps recurring every few days.

Has anyone else experienced this or has a fix?

Hi there @MongooseLord88,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help you get the web player in order again.

Could you please check the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on that Chromebook? Is it a work/school device?
  • When did this start happening? Did it work before?
  • Does it happen on different networks? Are you on a work/school network?
  • If you use any kind of VPN or proxy server, disable it as those can interfere with server communication.
  • See if the same happens in an incognito window. Try installing a different browser and see if the same happens there.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Joan,

I have exactly the same problem and I was looking for a possible solution when I came across this post. It describes exactly what happens to me. I use a HP laptop, running Windows 11 Pro. I have been listening to the Sportify web player (free version)  (https://open.spotify.com/)  on Chrome for at least 2-3 years and this only began to happen in the last month. I also listen less frequently to it on a MacBook Air, but don't have this problem there. So, what is the solution here?

Hi there @MilenP,

Thanks for your reply in this thread.

First up, go to your Account Overview page and Sign out everywhere. Additionally, remove access to all the apps you've connected to your account from here. You can easily reconnect your apps anytime. Once done, log back in and check if that makes a difference.

If that doesn't help, editing your Hosts file might help. Just follow the steps here. Additionally, could you try using a different Internet connection? If you don't have any available, you could create a hotspot network from your mobile device and use it to check.

Lastly, make sure both the OS on your device and Google Chrome are up-to-date. It's also worth checking if this happens when using a different browser.

Let us know how that goes.

literally the same thing it's happening to me... i can't listen to even a whole 5 minutos song without the app stopping at least 5 or 6 times. tried everything other users and threads told me to do, nothing worked... even stopped my ram boost (android 15) on my phone and nothing... seriously considering paying apple music if not fixed and hope it doesn't have the same problem.

I have same issues with PC App, Android App and App in my Volvo ...
Stupid thing that seems to go worse day by day ...

I tried the suggested fixes and nothing has worked. Everything is up to date, I tried logging out, hot spotting and other networks, and I tried the host file things and my issue is on the Spotify application itself, not a browser.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out!

We'd recommend testing with a different account on the affected devices to see if the issue persists. You can ask a friend or relative to log in their own account on your device, for example.

It's worth performing a clean reinstall of the app as well to remove any damaged cache and to ensure you're running the latest version. Afterwards, you can try logging out and back in a couple of times in a row to make sure everything's synced.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm having an issue where my Spotify is just pausing for no reason, I have no internet issues or anything. It pauses on my phone and tablet randomly and I don't know how to fix it. I've tried logging out then back it, I've tried deleting the app on one device and still nothing. Could you please help me resolve this

Hey @Rima26,

Thanks for joining the thread and welcome to the Spotify Community!

It might be worth testing with another account on the affected devices to see if the issue persists. This is to check if it might be account-related and you can ask a friend or a relative to log in their own account on your devices to see if they get the same behavior. It's also a good idea to go through your device's settings to make sure Spotify's allowed all permissions and that there aren't any battery optimization settings on.

We also recommend removing any connected apps you might not be using from your account page. To make sure there aren't any network issues, it'd be great if you can test this out on another network (a different WiFi, mobile data, hotspot from a different device, etc.), as well as power-cycling your router. Try unplugging it from the power outlet > waiting around 60-120 sec > plugging it back in to see if that helps.

You also mentioned deleting the app on one of the devices, but can you try performing a clean reinstall of the app on both of them to make sure any damaged cache is removed?

Hope this helps.
