Streaming with Roberts Radio

Streaming with Roberts Radio

Just bought a Roberts istream 93i radio, which is meant to stream Spotify seamlessly from ipads, iphones etc, if you have a premium Spotify account, (which I do).

The internet radio on the Roberts works fine, so it's connected to the router fine. I can play Spotify from my ipad to my ipod fine. I just can't stream from the ipad or ipod to the Roberts.

I phoned Roberts, and the first call resultedin a new radio being sent out. Same thing happened. Phoned Roberts again, still no idea, and said they would call me back, but they didn't. So I'm still here without my streamed Spotify...

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? There is nothing appearing in the connect box within the Spotify app, so it's as though the device and radio aren't recognising each other, although both are connected to same router.

Thanks

Right Hand Side!

Yo.

Short answer:
Disable dynamic DNS lookup on the radio. Works instantly.

Long answer for those who aren't quite sure what that means:

To do this MANUALLY setup up the WiFi connection on the radio.

You'll need to enter the WiFi name, password, security type, DNS gateway and pick an IP address. When asked whether to use dynamic DNS choose 'no'.

To find all this info, log onto your router... On a computer or phone navigate in your Web browser (Chrome, I.e, Firefox) to your router by typing in the router address (normally 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 it can often be found on the back of router). Then log in using username and password (either on the back of the router or try 'admin' 'admin'.... Seriously).

In here you'll find all the info you need as listed above. You may have to look under 'advanced' then 'WiFi' or something to that effect.

When it comes to setting the IP address on the radio in the manual settings, just pick something on the same network as your router I.e. 192.168.1.4 or 192.168.1.12 or 192.168.1.42 or whatever. Just NOT the same address as you used to navigate to the router. (So not 192.168.1.1 or. 254)

This solved it instantly for me.
The instructions above are kind of generic as the router address etc may change, but it gives you the idea. Worst case ask a friendly teenager 🙂

P.s you don't need to change anything in the router options when doing this, so best not to. Please note also that once you have logged into the router there will be a username and password. Such as Jane.doe@bt.com don't change this.

Pps I'm unlikely to check back, so if you struggle Google how to log into my 'netgear/bt/whatever' router

Good luck x
