ps4 bitrate

ps4 bitrate

Hello Spotify and thanks alot for your awesome service.

The ps4 app was released today. It's awesome in every way, being able to control music through Spotify connect etc. But I cannot find any settings to choose bitrate. Is there only one bitrate availible on the ps4, and if so, which bitrate is that?

Thank you.

Hey @dfa2 . Welcome to the community!

The app should default to streaming at 320 if you're a Premium user. If you're using the Connect feature the streaming quality will be the same as your phone.

Thanks @Rorey for clearing that up fast!

Hi. I think something maybe wrong with that statement.

On mobile with the highest quality the sound is occasionally choppy but 100% good otherwise.

On ps4 with no choice to be had and connected with spotify connect it is Always choppy and loads of cuts 90 % of the time

I'm not saying it's not happening for you, but I haven't experienced any choppiness at all on my system(and i'm really **bleep** about my sound-system), so I don't think your statement is correct in all cases either @zeyd

Maybe I wasn't Clear.

On mobil and pc: normal bitrate goes smoothly
On ps4: impossible to use.

So the bitrate is not the same because a lot of fellow spotifiers have a smooth experience.

I say it is probably because you have a bandwidth that can support it.

I have only 2oo kbs. It is ok for most things but spotify ps4 ( only ps4) do not work for me.

I hope a streaming quality option is in the pipes

I see. Well one way to change the bitrate from the ps4 would be to use the spotify connect feature as described by Rorey above. That could potentially solve your problem or else exclude bitrate being a factor in your choppiness.

Hello and thanks for this answer.

Have you possibly tested Spotify on the PS4 and listened to the horrible quality that is being output? I have pretty decent setup, both amp/speakers and headphones but the the sound quality is very bad, tinny and when words with "S" are pronounced it sounds like theres an extreme treble. I'm not the only one experiencing this and was wondering if this is a Spotify issue or PS4 issue?

PS: Sound quality did not change after i went premium.
PS2: Mobile and pc output is perfect.

Hi
Just logged in here to say that after I logged into ps 4 spotify app as a premium subscriber I wasn't impressed with the sound,.
It sounded not that great more like 96kbit.
Can u look into this ? And check if it works.
bad I can't see the bit rate or change quality setting.

I completely agree - sound quality from the ps4 app is very bad. I have a high-end system and have been trying to sort this out all morning.
If anyone finds a solution to change the stream quality on the ps4, I would be happy to know!

I will be following this thread. I also have a fairly medium end sound system and was comparing to flac through my media player previously and assumed this was the quality of 320 as i've previously only used spotify with my phone.

If it can be improved I would be extremely happy.

Awesome in every way is far from the truth. Audio quality is garbage, it's a stripped down version of spotify. You can't even navigate your music properly. It's absolutely horrible. I was a music unlimited subscriber for a long time. It was pretty decent on the ps3, and a total train wreck on the ps4 and the new spotify connect app is even worse. The blame lies on sony and spotify. Both companies care nothing about putting out a quality service, but just stealing hard earned money, in my opinion. They know it's substandard, rushed and released before the bugs were worked out, and both companies could give a rats ass.they are just joining forces because they were afraid of losing money to xbox music, which is flawed in many ways but still is way better than this pathetic excuse for a music service on the ps4

Has the issue been looked into at all? Community managers? Any word? 🙂

I would really like to see a fix, sound quality on is really poor on the spotify app for ps4

bump - still looking for an update on this issue. Even just acknowledgement of an issue from spotify or playstation so that we know an update is coming to fix it.

I have a premium account - and while playing 'high quality' (320) directly through my Onkyo receiver's spotify connect, it sounds WORLDS better than when playing from my ps4 plugged into that same sound system. I have tried all of the different audio out options from the PS4 (PCM, dts, DD), and all sound link junk in their own unique way lol.

I use Spotify on my PS4 daily. Sound quality is perfect. I'm running optical audio out to my stereo amp/dac. Is its possible that the reason some people are experiencing poor audio play back due to crap DAC chips in TV's etc?

Just to test I tried running the audio through Hdmi to my TV then from the headphone out to my amp and it sounded awful.

Not sure if this will help anyone but just a thought.

I thought the Spotify sound quality was rubbish just recently from the PS4.

I found it was to do with the way I had my audio output via HDMI to a basic amplifier.

Once I switched it to optical out via a medium quality DAC, the sound improved noticeably.

I compared it to the sound quality of Spotify via iPhone 5 to Apple AirportExpress out via optical to another medium quality DAC.

Sounds comparable and the quality is very crisp.

donno why but when i use spotify on PS4 its sound so flat like its low bit rate.

PS4 HDMI > Marantz SR7009 > 2.1 - 2x klipsch rf 62 mk2 + klipsch R-115SW = bad sounds like it low bit rate.

normal way stream stright to Marantz SR7009 > 2.1 - 2x klipsch rf 62 mk2 + klipsch R-115SW = sount super.

and i  have a premium account

Sorry, xbox one support 320 bitrate too? Thanks

Yes, Spotify on Xbox One supports up to 320 kbps for premium users.
