I have been unable to use the new web player at work ever since it went live because it constantly thinks I'm listening from my PC at home.
"You're listening on DESKTOP-O6OBIVS" it says on a green banner. I fully understand what this message means since it's a feature of the Spotify desktop app; I see it a lot when I go from listening on my phone to desktop. However, on desktop I can just click the device and select where I want to listen, but this is not even possible on the web player.
Spotify is not running on my home computer either, in fact it's completely shut down. This appears to be an issue with the new player that I wanted to bring up.
I'm having this problem as well. It's "stuck" on my desktop player, even though my desktop player is shut down. I can't select the web player.
I only use the web player and I also got the message saying it's currently playing on Spotify Web Player, well it's clearly me...
Hi!
Firstly, let's try deleting both cookies and cache (on Firefox type about:preferences and navigate to the Privacy tab; on Chrome it's chrome://settings, navigate to advanced settings and under Privacy there's 'clear browsing data').
See if that works now.
Yours,
SebVAIO
Weird I had already did that and nothing and then it worked on the second times, thanks SebVAIO
Did anyone find a fix for this in the end? It's just happened on my account, so the Web Player (which is all I can use at work) is now useless. Tried clearing caches/history on Firefox (I can't even get Spotify to work on any other browser these days), but to no avail. Going a bit mad.
This is happening to me as well. It's trying to play on a wireless speaker at my home. Web Player was working fine at work for me yesterday. This is really irritating...I've tried clearing cookies and browsing data also tried logging in and out. I'll give it another shot I guess...
This seems to be a problem on google chrome as well. Clearing cache and cookies doesn't resolve it. Logging out from every other device neither.
Okay, after fiddling around a bit I managed to get it working.
I logged in and out of both my webplayer and my android application (which was the one the webplayer was locked on). After doing that I was still unable to switch from android player to webplayer so I started the music from the webplayer on my android player and the stopped it again. After doing that I was able to switch between webplayer and android player in my webplayer. This clearly seems like a bug, but hopefully you'll be able to do the same to overcome this bug.
Have a nice weekend!
This worked for me as well. Thank you! Annoying bug indeed!
Has this been resolved? I am having the same problem... Web player (all I can use at work) thinks I am playing from my Android phone. Tried signing out of of everywhere and changing password... Didn't fix it. Tried clearing internet cache... Didn't fix it. Tried deleting spotify from my android phone... Didn't fix it.
Very frustrated.
It's been months and why has this not been solved?! Tried all the suggustions here and no luck. Do Spotify mods not even look at these? Even a simple response would be nice....
I was having the same problem, but just got it to work. I couldn't get it to play on my webplayer on my laptop because it was saying I was listening on my android, even after I logged out, deleted the app, and cleared my cache. I noticed that there's a new option that talks about connected devices. I started listening to a song on my android and paused it, then went to 'Connect a Device' on my android and switched to Spotify Webplayer. This got it to work for me. I hope this helps, I know not figuring it out frustrated me for a week!!
Same problem here....for a few days now (at least).
SOOOOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING.Forcing me to install an application when I could easily be streaming via chrome is beyond dumb.
