I feel like I'm being conned with the Family Plan

Solved!

I feel like I'm being conned with the Family Plan

Plan

Premium Family

My Question or Issue

  • The Family plan I'm on used to be £16.99pm.
  • It has now gone up to £19.99pm - a massive hike.
  • The only change seems to be the addition of 15 hours/mo of Audiobooks just for me (not other family members) and I'm not interested in this.
  • I can downgrade it to the "Basic Family" plan at £17.99 pm to remove the Audiobooks but that seems to provide "Basic" rather than "Premium" account access to family members, so worse than the service before at £16.99.

Please explain why this is the case. How can I get "Premium" access for all family members without the useless Audiobooks feature?

Hey @robot-man,

Thanks for getting back and providing your feedback.

Right now, the only difference between the regular and the basic plan is that the plan manager doesn't have access to any of the Audiobooks that are included in Premium.

If you decide to switch to Basic Family, all existing plan members will also move to the Basic plan and their address details will be carried over automatically.

In general, the experience for the plan members will remain practically the same, since they didn't have access to Audiobooks included in Premium in the first place.

I hope this helps 🙂

Hey @robot-man,

Thanks for reaching out.

The new subscription plan contains all Premium features except access to Audiobooks that are included in Premium. If you're eligible, you can switch to this plan at https://www.spotify.com/account/manage-your-plan/.

I hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for the quick reply.

Please explain why, on the Plans page (https://www.spotify.com/uk/premium/), the £19.99/mo "Family" plan has the "Premium" label and says "Up to 6 Premium accounts" but the £17.99/mo "Basic Family" plan does not have the label and explicitly says "Up to 6 Basic accounts".

This implies they are different types of account with different features (regardless of Audiobook inclusion). I need to be assured that the only difference between them is the lack of the Audiobooks feature because that's definitely not what the site says. Words matter.

Thanks for the information. It should really be made clear on the site and/or in the FAQs.
