Premium family user history is merged on parent account?

Premium family user history is merged on parent account?

We have Echos all over the house and we are often playing music.  My kids have echos in their room, and I created kid profiles and assigned those devices to them in the Alexa app. I also have created profiles for them in my premium family Spotify account.  My son and I Spotify most, and for some wacky reason, his spotify history is showing up in my account.  Suuuuper inconvenient, as it's shaping what automatically plays for me when I plug in in the car or when I request music on my Echo devices.  It's also shaping my recommendations.

Is this a Spotify issue or an Amazon issue?  And what's the best path to resolve?

Prefacing my goofy post with, we are recent converts to Spotify by way of recently moving from Google to Amazon. I'm feeling like a super noob, because this is feeling oddly difficult to resolve, compared to Google anyway.

Plan: Premium/Family

Country: US

Device: Pixel 6 Pro + others

Operating System: Android

Hey @TanaLikeMontana,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community. Don't worry - we know setting this up can be tricky but we’ll help you as best as we can.

It’s currently not possible to link more than one Spotify account per Alexa profile. From what you're describing it sounds like this is your account.

If you have multiple profiles set up in Alexa - you'd need to make sure that they are linked with the respective Spotify accounts.

If you'd like Alexa to play music from the right account - the profile needs to be switched to that user before using voice commands to start the playback. Alternatively, you could create a new Spotify Family member account (if you haven't used up all the 5 slots) and link that one with Alexa to just play music at home. You can use the Connect feature for the other accounts to control the Echo speakers using the Spotify app.

For further info on the topic - we'd recommend that you take a look at this FAQ.

Lastly, if you want to stop getting recommendations about certain music (for example the music influenced by your son's listening) - you can exclude it from your taste profile. We've recently announced "Exclude from Taste Profile" feature and it's now available on all platforms. There's more info about the topic in our Steps by Stars article. You could also give this a try.

Hope this helps. Take care 🙂
