Switch from Duo to Family

Switch from Duo to Family

I have a Duo subscription that I share with my son. Now, I would like to switch to Family Premium and include another child and my partner. My question is: will the playlists (both mine and the ones my son has on the current Duo account) be deleted? Or will we join the new family subscription with the same accounts we are using now? Thank you in advance.

Hi @giunco,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

As a Spotify user, you can keep your same account (with all of your playlists, saved music, and settings) no matter which plan you switch to or from. So no worries, if you change your plan from Premium Duo to Premium Family, neither yours nor your son's playlists will be deleted.

You can change your plan from Premium Duo to Premium Family by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your account page
  2. Under Manage your plan, click Change plan
  3. Select Premium Family

Your plan will be updated immediately, and your billing schedule will change due to the price difference between the two plans.

At your next payment date (which you can view on your account page), the other member from your Premium Duo account will revert to the free plan. You can then invite your son, and the other members of your family, to the new Premium Family plan by following these steps.

Bear in mind that to accept the invites, members must live at the same address as the plan manager. Note as well that members can only switch between different Premium Family or Premium Duo plans once a year.

You can also read more about switching between different subscription plans in this support article, as well as about how Premium Family works here.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

I have a similar query.  Me and my daughter currently on duo.  Want to switch to a Family Plan so my other daughter can join.  Will my daughter automatically move over to the Family Plan, or will she need to be invited/set up again.

Hey there @Karl2024,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

Since you're creating a completely new plan with Premium Family, your daughter that's currently in the Duo plan will have to be invited to the new one. No worries, she keeps her current Spotify account and all playlists. Once you've created the Family plan and sent her an invite following the steps on this page, all she needs to do is accept the invitation to join your new plan.

Please note that since downloading music for offline listening is a Premium feature, your daughter that's currently in the Duo plan will need to re-download the music she wants available for offline listening, when she has joined the new plan.

If you like, feel free to have a look at this page for more info on how to change the plan.

We hope this clear things up. Cheers!

You have to invite both of your daughters to the family plan
