Gift Card for Student cannot be used

I purchased a gift card for my son, who is 16 (a student).

On receipt of the card, which I purchased online, it indicates that it can only be redeemed for "full price standalone Premium subscription".

I have 2 questions:

If he uses this on his existing student account, will it push him into the Premium level from hereon?

Given this is just an alternative for putting money on his account, why can it not be redeemed for the type of account that he currently has?

This is a really poor purchase experience.

Thanks for coming to the Community.

Unfortunately, you can’t use Gift Cards for Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers.

But he can redeem the Gift Card at https://spotify.com/redeem, it'll add one month of Premium to his account (or 6, or 12 months, depending on the Gift Card). This won't change his subscription type.

I bought a 60 dollar giftcard for my Spotify and not only can it not be used for my student spotify account I also LOST MY HULU. now for 6 months I HAVE NOTHING and im so sad can we please change this?? I AM STILL A STUDENT. cmon please im already depressed with midterms dont make it worse for me.
