My Question or Issue

Hi Spotify Developer Team,

I am currently developing an application that uses the Spotify Web API to analyze and display detailed information about artists.

While the API provides great insights like genres, popularity, and related-artists, it currently lacks any location-based metadata regarding the artist's origin (e.g., country of citizenship, birth city, or formation location of a band).

Why this feature would be valuable:

• Better Discovery: Users could explore music based on geographical regions or local scenes.

• Richer Visualizations: Developers could create world maps showing user listening habits by artist origin.

• No External API Hacks: Currently, developers have to rely on third-party APIs (like MusicBrainz or Wikidata) to map Spotify URI data with geographic data, which introduces rate limits and matching inaccuracies.

Proposed Solution: It would be extremely helpful if the GET /v1/artists/{id} endpoint included fields such as:

Adding artist origin data to the API is a good idea. You should post it in the Idea Submissions forum and it may be considered.

Just be sure to check out if the idea is already there. If it's not, submit it after reading the idea submission guidelines. 🙂
