Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

We have been using those SDKs since they became available.

Our particular app (Amazing Slow Downer) lets the user play music more slowly, since a couple of years ago also songs from Spotify. The "ios-streaming-sdk" is a beautifully designed framework that lets an audio developer do practically everything needed.
In our case it makes it possible to access the raw audio samples and this way process the sound and then playback the processed audio using our regular audio playback engine. With your new SDK this is not possible. It might be that the "ios-streaming-sdk" is more difficult to use for an average developer but that also makes it more powerful.

We have many users that uses Spotify. Many users switch from other streaming services such as "Apple Music", Tidal, Amazon Music etc to Spotify just to be able to slow down streaming music in real time.

We believe our app gives Spotify many many new subscribers, so many that it would actually pay off for Spotify to maintain the "ios-streaming-sdk".

We only use "playlist" functions and after fixing a couple of bugs in the "metadata framework" available on github, everything works 100%. Although there are certainly some bugs in the “ios-streaming-sdk”, they are very few and don’t affect our app.

We also have an Android version of our app that uses your Android streaming SDK and it also works very good.

We believe Spotify will loose thousands of users, so many that the minimal cost Spotify need to spend on maintenance will pay off manifold.

Since our app also supports playback and slowing down of streaming Apple Music, many of our users will probably switch from subscribing to Spotify to subscribing to Apple Music.

You write:

"After September 1st, important functionality in the streaming SDKs will stop working."
Exactly what does that mean? What part of the SDK will continue to work?

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs!

The ASD app is a tool I use daily. It is the reason I chose Spotify as my music platform. It will be a great loss to the music community if you no longer support this app. I will leave to another platform.. and with me will go my family and my students who I have recommended this app too.
pls continue to support The ASD app and the musicians who use it as a tool. Thank you.

I subscribed to Spotify because it works with ASD, so I can transcribe and play along with music at a pitch and speed that works for me. If the connection between Spotify and ASD doesn’t work any more I will look for a better way to access music through ASD, and foresee unsubscribing from Spotify. It would be fantastic for me and other aspiring musicians if you would keep this API working!

I’m another long term subscriber to Spotify who will now cancel due to the loss of functionality with ASD. Listen to your customers Spotify!

I’m a violinist and use this function regularly for practice. I’ve recommended Spotify an amazing slowdowner to many of my colleagues. Please keep the function working🙏

Hello,

As a dance teacher, I couldn't find a better app to link my Spotify account to be able to adjust the speed to my students level. This is by far a great tool and my students can now enjoy more media content and also slowly adapt to faster pace. Hopefully all these concerns will reverse the decision.

Thanks in advance.

I have been a Spotify Premium subscriber since 2019 and I use the ASD app every day to slow down songs from Spotify to learn them on guitar.

This functionality is critical and I will not be able to maintain my subscription to Spotify without it.

Please reconsider this decision!!

The ability to alter pitch is also insanely helpful. Many songs are recorded by bands who tune their instruments down a half step. Some have been mastered in a way that alters the pitch so that it ends up being partially sharp or flat. Amazing Slow Downer makes navigating these oddities so easy I am sick about losing these features. I still can not figure out how this benefits Spotify. Why is this happening?  Have they given reason?  Where are the Spotify people in response to this move?

Please reconsider this position Spotify, the Amazing Slow Downer app is a great tool, I would really prefer not to have to move to another streaming service and cancel Spotify

I am also a user of this app and really rely on it to practice studying jazz piano. I really hope Spotify will reconsider ceasing comparability to use this app. I am also a paying Spotify user. But this may force me to switch to Apple Music.

I am a working touring and studio musician. The ability to grab a song from Spotify and bring it into The Amazing Slow Downer and ow the song down and/or change the pitch is a major feature that’s extremely valuable to me. Can you please do what’s necessary to keep the functionality that exists today. Thank you.

I have been enjoying using Spotify along with ASD  on a daily basis for quite a while to practice and teach guitar. If unable to continue doing so, I will simply switch to a different streaming medium.

The sad thing is that the Spotify SDK handles tempo and pitch while Apple Music only does tempo yet we’re all going to have to switch to Apple if Spotify doesn’t reconsider even though we don’t want to-

Don’t shut down the streaming SDK used by Amazing Slow Downer it’s used by so many people to learn how to play songs.

Please continue the access to raw audio for external developers.

Transcribing music is an important part of being a musician; being able to slow down the audio and change its pitch is an essential tool for this. Since Spotify does not provide these features itself (which wouldn’t be very hard), taking away access to third party developers means a big drop in value for musicians. Tidal does offer some (but not all) of these features, for example.

I realize musicians are probably a small drop in your bucket of streaming revenue, but since these are the people who actually make what you’re selling, it would probably pay off for Spotify on the long run to keep some of them around!

EDIT: Tidal seems to have removed this feature too. Apple Music does allow third-party access.

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs for the App Amazing slowdowner. This App is the only reason I have an Spotify-Account

Being a subscriber of Spotify and frequent user af Amazing Slow Downer, I find it really sad that I won't be able to practice playing with use of slow down and pitch adjustment functions anymore. The ASD in combination with Spotify is excellent for practicing and it would be fantastic if you could reconsider. As a user, switching to Apple may be an option but based on what is written above, pitch adjusment may not be possible (only tempo adjustment). Better than nothing though.

Same thing here... I'm a long time user that is really disappointed with the decision to stop supporting the possibility for developers to stream to apps like Amazing Slowdowner. I guess it's time to go back to Apple and buy songs on Apple Music instead of streaming on Spotify 😞

I strongly agree

I started using Spotify because my music teachers suggest the app and account to new students. I then search new songs on Spotify and the cycle continues. Your relationship seems symbiotic and this doesn't make much business sense. The number of users from that one music school has to cover your costs I would imagine.

Reading through these posts here, I hope you see this supports your most avid fans:those who love music so much they want to share it and try to make it.

For me having a Spotify subscription without ASD support makes no sense. As a teacher this support is bar none the best tool I’ve ever used for easily learning song to my students. Please continue the access through ASD!
