The current embedded player of Spotify comes with a set of issues.
1. No Volume Control
The embedded player is able to play music, but it is in no way possible to control the volume of the player. I have seen this create a very uncomfortable experience for users, complaining about high volume and the inability to turn it down. I have seen people search for volume controls in all parts of the embedded player, only finding options to share or open the track in the Spotify app, leaving our app and by extent Spotify in frustration. Especially with non-logged in users, the preview track plays at an incredibly high volume. I have observed users using the embedded player violently grabbing their headphones from their ears as the high volume caused physical pain.
2. Failure to sign in Premium users
On some browsers, the embed does not recognise that a user is signed in with Spotify Premium, and continues to play preview tracks. There is another open issue regarding this here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-for-Developers/Spotify-Track-Embed-not-signing-in-Firefox/m...
Considering this plus the high volume aforementioned creates a very frustrating experience.
3. Mandatory presence of album covers
The embedded player is used in a variety of contexts, including public livestreams, for example through usage of websites such as songbattle.io. While these users would like to enjoy the music Spotify offers, album covers can be a hindrance in that regard. Some content displayed on album covers, such as partial nudity, is not allowed on platforms such as Twitch, where playing Spotify songs this way is rather popular. Consequently, an option to hide album covers would be much appreciated.
Thank you for taking this into consideration.
