Problem playing music when Spotify API is not active

My Question 

I am encountering an issue with the Spotify Web API in my application. When I try to restart a song after pausing it, I receive a 401 error. However, if I quickly pause and then start the song again, there seems to be no problem. Additionally, if Spotify is open but no song is actively playing, I am unable to start a song from my application and again encounter a 401 error. Please assist
