My Question or Issue

we are trying to integrate Spotify Web APIs (Rest APIs) into our Android application. we are using Exo-player in our app for playback.

we are using "client-credentials" for Authentication and accessing access token. we are getting track URI like this "spotify:track:2nP1wLRh85mo5Wdj4RQldp", but this Uri is not compatible with Exo-player. Exo-player expects direct playable media uri (means raw media uri).

Why is Spotify not exposing directly playable media uri ?

Do we need to have partnership with Spotify for this?

Thanks

Ashish

Hi @AshishL

It is only possible to add an App Remote to your app that controls the installed Spotify app. It is not possible to stream Spotify content using your own player.

I hope this clarifies things.

Hi Ximzend,

Thanks for replying.

Actually, if we use "App Remote" then we can't directly stream Spotify content into our own Exo-player within our app, this doesn't fit to our project requirement and use cases.

I understand that Spotify contents are DRM protected and that's why Spotify doesn't share directly playable track URI but is it possible if we do partnership / licensing with Spotify?

Thanks

Ashish

Hi @AshishL

Hi @AshishL

An Spotify employee said that even partners require the Spotify app to stream music through it.

I hope this answers your question. If you have further questions, feel free to ask!
