My Question or Issue
I'm sure this is either going to get disappeared or get another canned nothing-burger response - but what is going on with this API?!
First, it was the totally out-of-the-blue disabling of important endpoints devs were actively using, without any warning (go check the canned response on that thread for a good laugh).
Then, again, with no warning, the ability to create new Apps was disabled with nothing but vague and pointless messaging about if it might be back.
Now, when I even go to update credentials on an existing app, an 'unexpected error' happens so you can't add/remove/edit existing redirect URIs. [This is the issue that brought me here and has been happening for the last few months]
A cynical person might presume this was intentional and related the previous point. They might also guess that the final trick is a grand reveal rug-pull to bring back all the features you're slowing removing behind an egregious paywall (again, as this company has done at every turn).
You brought in this amazing, creative developer community to build on your platform, proclaimed to be for creators, and at every turn show the exact opposite in your actions. Spotify used to be a cool tech company but is now just a glorified podcast ad company.
1. Why should anyone in 2026 consider integrating with your platform given your proven track record of rug-pulling, radical shifts in offerings and rules, and continued abandonment of the community you provide this service to?
2. (and I don't even know why I'm bothering to ask, but) Can someone (not a random community outreach person copy/pasting a response) give what I would imagine to a huge community of developers any sort of insight into what the future of this API is and if/when we should expect resolutions to huge issues preventing any realistic use of your API?
I'll be honest, I've pretty much moved on from prioritizing integrating with Spotify in my music applications. In this day and age, there are just too many other options - and the unfortunate reality is the person that this hurts the most is not us devs, but YOUR paying Spotify customer base that we are building for.
