Web API Limitations

We are developing a plugin for Spotify to be controlled with a hardware controller, but our service software needs to check the status of Spotify every second to update the state. We found that there is a limit for messages sent, which when exceeded can lead to a ban. We would need to have the message count increased so that we do not run the risk of our users having their accounts shut down. Is there any way this limit could be adjusted to our needs or are there other solutions available?
