Changing from premium to family do playlists and downloads get deleted?

Solved!

Changing from premium to family do playlists and downloads get deleted?

Hi there I have upgraded my subscription to family.  One of the members of my family is concerned they will lose all the songs they’ve downloaded and playlist blah blah associated with their account?  Which would be annoying.  So my question is if they cancel their premium and accept my family invite do they lose this information?  Or do they not cancel their subscription first just activate the family link?  What’s the best way and can anyone give me assurance that they won’t delete all their music!?!

Hey there @lauren_mal,

Thanks for your post.

You're right - when you convert from Premium Family to the free version, only your downloads will be removed, since the ability to download content is available only on Premium.

Your playlists/ liked songs/ followed artists and albums will stay in your library as they are. You'd just need to hit the download button on them again after updating to your new Family Plan.

Cheers.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your quick reply. My understanding from what you said is that the tracks remain in place and are available (not offline) and you have the option to re-download. Phew! I was wondering if you had to recall them all (i.e., the disappeared) which would be impossible and devastating.

Cheers!

Lauren

I would  like to change my premium account to a family account, but when i try I get the message that I dont have permission to that plan.. I had my premium account sens Spotify entered the market... Why cant I create a family account?

Hi there folks,

Thank you for your replies in this thread.

@lauren_mal - You're correct. You'll be able to download your track again once you'll get the Premium features.

@sibbem - if you have a Premium account you need to cancel that plan. Once you've converted to our free version you'll be able to start a Premium Family plan.

Hi Carlos! I just started managing a Spotify Duo plan with my partner. I'm going to be billed at the end of the month for the Duo amount. We're both former Premium Individual plan holders, he just got billed $9.99 last week, is it correct that he won't get a refund or be able to apply the $9.99 towards our Duo bill?

Hey @emememee,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

If your partner gets charged for the individual amount after joining your Duo plan, most likely the individual subscription is still active on their account.

Keep in mind that when the app takes a payment, it will give you 30 days of the premium subscription you've purchased. In this case, since we don't have access to user's accounts in the Community, we'd recommend to your partner contacting our Customer support directly so they can check the account, explain what happened and help you further.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for this.  Unfortunately, when we switched to family from premium, none of our music transferred.  Do you know where I can find it or how I can go about getting it back?  Thanks!

Hey @moveit15,

Thanks for reply and for shared.

It's possible you have more than one account. This can be the reason why you can't see your playlists. We suggest you check the details of the account you logged in with with these steps from mobile:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. At the top of settings, you can see the email linked to your account (if any) and the plan you are currently in.

If you aren’t certain about the details you used to register on the app, go to password reset and enter any possible email addresses you own. When you enter an email that's registered with Spotify, you'll get a password reset message for that email.

Note: Keep in mind there are a few ways to sign up, e.g. with an email, phone number, Facebook, Apple, or Google. Try logging in with these, the account with all your saved music may be linked to one of these options as well.

Please help me! I have a premium family plan and I wanted to subscribe again but I chose individual plan by mistake. I want to change to family again before I lost family plan...

I upgraded my individual plan paying R59 to Family plan paying R99 but I am still debited for my individual plan even though I am paying for my family plan. How do I rectify this because I am double paying.

We have a Family plan for which I'm the "Manager", and considering switching to free. From what I've gathered from this post, the following is true if I do this:

  • Members of the plan will all switch to a free account
  • Members of this plan won't lose any playlists and previously download songs will be removed

I assume too that if I reactivate the Premium Family plan, each member of the plan effectively returns to how it was before?

Hey @lubblyjubbly,

Thanks for joining the thread!

To answer your questions, yes, if you switch to the free version then all members' accounts will also return to free, none of you will lose your saved music, however you won't be able to download content for offline listening as this is a Premium feature.

If you resubscribe to Premium Family later on, then you'd have to re-invite all of the members as this doesn't happen automatically. More info you can find in this article.

Hope this helped clear things up and don't hesitate to let us know if you're wondering about anything else.

Cheers 🙂
