Desktop free plan functionalities on mobile

Hi I just created a new Spotify account and I'm really confused. Please note that i'm specifically talking about the spotify mobile app. 

I can choose which songs I wish to listen to on mobile (any title, I can scroll through any playlist and select any song I want), there's apparently no skip limit, and no ads. Though I don't have offline mode.

I'm aware that these are the desktop and IPad free plan functionalities but normally you can't do any of this with a phone, which i'm using. With my old account, I couldn't do any of this on my phone.

Does Spotify automatically begin a free trial without asking first? Though it seems improbable : free trial have offline mode, which isn't the case here.

I just opened free account. I expected to hear ads while listening to music. Did not. Is this temporary?
