Long term fraudulent payments

Long term fraudulent payments

Hi everyone!

I’m posting here for advice after hitting a dead end with Spotify support.

I recently discovered that my bank account has been used since 2018 (possibly earlier) to pay for a Spotify subscription I never authorized and wasn’t even aware of. This went unnoticed because I assumed these payments were for my own Spotify account. Also, the fraudulent charges were usually billed at the beginning of each month, while mine were at the end, so the duplication was hard to spot.

When I reported this to Spotify, they refunded me for charges going back to 2023 but said they can’t refund anything older than two years because their system only shows transactions within that period. They told me to contact my bank about the older charges.

My bank, however, told me it’s actually Spotify’s responsibility to refund those earlier fraudulent payments, not theirs. They also advised me to send Spotify official bank statements showing the unauthorized charges from 2018 onward. I did that today, but Spotify responded again saying they can’t refund anything beyond two years because they don’t have records on their end — despite me providing clear, official proof from my bank.

So, I’m out over 600 euros and feel stuck. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to get Spotify to take responsibility for these older charges would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

In EU, it's a bank matter. Rules slightly differ between countries.

Spotify had no obligation to refund you, unless I'm mistaken, so it's actually good that you were able to get a refund for the last two years.
