My Question or Issue

I've recently received the price increase information e-mail. I only saw a preview on my iPhone home screen, but never actually opened the e-mail to read it in full. 1 minute after the initial information e-mail was received, I've received another e-mail thanking me for accepting the price increase, which I obviously haven't done. Only after receiving that second e-mail I've opened the first one and noticed that it requires me to click on a button to approve the price increase, so how come it claims that I've given approval when I didn't even open the e-mail let alone click on a button?

First, I'd like to inquire as to how such a bug is possible and then I'd like to request for you to reset this approval as I haven't given it.
Chat support's solution was that I'm free to cancel, but nope, I don't want to cancel, I want things to get back to the initial state and me actually having to approve the price increase myself until the given date or not. Thanks!

Hey @Janine83,

Thanks for coming to the Community.

If you don’t want to continue at the new price, you can cancel anytime from your Account Page. You’ll keep Premium at your current price until the change takes effect.

After that, your plan will automatically switch to the free, ad-supported version. since Premium can’t continue at the old price. You can re-subscribe whenever you like.

For more details on what price changes mean for your account, visit Spotify.com or our FAQ page.

Spotify has also shared more about why they’re making these updates on For the Record. 🙂

Hey Maxim,

thanks for the reply.

I‘m aware of that, but as mentioned to the chat support, this doesn‘t solve my issue.

A person needs to actively consent to the new price and I didn‘t. This has nothing to do with a possibility to cancel, this is a legal issue. You can‘t auto consent for somebody, so I‘d like this consent to be removed.

Have the same issue and support let me down completely. This agreement is not binding and you have expressed as I did that I did not agree and they should investigate.

I'm not sure how you get to asked for a "consent" regarding a price increase. I have been paying for a subscription for a few years now and I have never received an email asking me for my consent for a price increase. They just send an email "telling" me about an upcoming price increase, and another email after the price increase take into effect.

I did my research and found out that in certain locations, a binding law is implemented that indeed requires consent for price increase for virtual goods and services. If, you really didn't click the link accepting or consenting the price increase, then that is indeed against the law.

Based on your statement, it seems that you already reached out to their support team but not happy with whatever the answer they told you. What I would suggest is for you to contact Spotify support again and ask for someone from their escalations team. A supervisor or a manager might be able to provide you better resolution.
