Spotify Premium Giftcard Restrictions

I have a Spotify Duo plan and received a premium giftcard for Christmas, though get a message when trying to apply the card that this cannot be applied. I see that Spotify posts that there are restrictions on what these gift cards can be used for and limit their use for "discounted plan". I have never seen such restrictions for other giftcards. Is there a way to apply the $30 premium gift card balance to my account that I am missing?

If not, I would have concerns that this may be an example of a company refusing to honor a legitimately purchased giftcard. I believe are likely laws or regulations against this and am wondering if anybody else has looked into this.

Thanks for coming to the Community.

As stated here, you, unfortunately, can’t apply a gift card on discounted plans like Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers.

If you’d like to redeem the Gift Card, you can cancel your current Premium Duo subscription and wait until it has ended. Once it has ended, you can redeem it for Premium Individual.
