I had possibly the same situation and was told that I could not apply my gift card to my basic account. I would need to upgrade to premium, and then would only be able to have either premium or free spotify. Evidently Spotify has removed the basic spotify option for choices.

I have also had a similar issue I have bought a $30 gift card from target and it says the card does not exist. This is the error code: Unfortunately this Premium code does not seem to be valid. Try again or contact customer service.

@PrJoYo, gift cards are only compatible with free or Premium Individual accounts, so if you have a Basic plan, you won't be able to redeem it unfortunately. But you can try returning it or regifting it to someone else that's eligible. You can learn more here.

@ajwsf, can you check the info in this article to make sure everything's in order with the gift card and that you're redeeming it correctly? You can also try entering the code in an incognito window and on another device.

Baloney. There are like... 2 states where you can return gift cards. Spotify needs to own up to deceptive wording and shady practices. But they won't because they have a Monopoly and they don't need customer service when they're the only ones in the game.
