AI generated albums using artists names. Publisher: "Ancient Lake Records"

The publisher Ancient Lake Records released multiple albums in the past week (Predominantly on the 11th of October 2024)
This publisher is using artist's names, such as HEALTH and Swans to name the two that brought this incident to my attention.
AI generated music using another artist's name is a flagrant breach of copyright law, and is making me seriously consider deleting my paid account and moving to a service that has an ounce of integrity.

By their own admission, this series of albums released under false artist names breaks Spotify's content policy on deceptive content.

They also released an album under our band name which appeared in our Spotify for artists app under upcoming releases. Surely something can be done that requires actual authentication to be able to release on an artists actual profile. It's ridiculous.

I think as the copyright owner of the band name you can claim that they're impersonating you, as a basic user we're unable to report something as a breach of spotify's terms of service.

I followed that moderator's link in the comment above (after they reinstated my message, for some reason replying to yourself and adding a picture means your comment is spam, and will be deleted automatically)  ended up talking to someone on a chat box who ended the chat without answering any my questions, which is always helpful.

Hope you have better luck getting a response form them as a creator.

We got the album removed quickly. So thanks to Spotify for that. But it just shouldn't be able to happen at all. This is not just spotify's problem, it's also down to the digital distributors. They do need to find a solution and fast.

I was going to submit a report, but since I am not a rightsholder I could not.

This does deserve attention and correction from Spotify.

Someone has been uploading AI spam and marking the legendary S.U.N Project as featured artist. This pops up as a new release for me, but is clearly not the artist themselves. The tracks are undeniably AI. 3 or so minutes max (compared to average 6 or so for the real artist), no creativity and sound design is odd, AI album artwork. It is very disrespectful to the artist to upload. I would even consider it pretending to be someone else, which in many countries is illegal.

I am shocked and appalled that this continues to happen. There are a number of Gregorian Chant groups (i.e. monks) that have had their profiles flooded with fake AI Gregorian chant, and as other posters have mentioned, these albums show up on their profiles as new releases. It is completely unacceptable and shameful that Spotify would allow religious groups to be impersonated and to shove AI "sacred music" in front of religious people around the world. I'm writing an expose on this and it will be illustrating how spotify enables religious music and religious listeners to be subverted for personal profit.

My Question or Issue

An AI produced "remix" of a song by an artist I follow is showing up under their name as a new release. (The cover art is AI generated as well.) I tried to report it with the report form for "Deceptive Content." Once I pasted the song link in the form, the only option under "What type of content are you reporting?" was "Canvas," which isn't relevant to my issue, and it doesn't let me select it regardless. A screenshot of the form as I see it is attached. I have tried this multiple times and on different browsers. I've never reported a song on Spotify before, but I copied the URI from the share menu like it says and I don't know where else this would be user error.

How can I properly report this if the official report form won't let me? I'm not trying to report for AI usage, but for malicious intent and impersonation of the real artist.

A lot of people got in contact with spotify more than 6 months ago when these albums started getting pushed onto our homepages, bands we followed showed up as if they had released new albums because of the AI music scalpers not knowing that they had stolen an existing band's name, along with whatever audio they're being 'trained' on.

More than half a year has passed yet nothing has been done by spotify, and people such as yourselves are getting the same issue.

Someone's been posting AI generated singles to the artist page of a defunct dream pop band called "Swallow" and it clearly isn't them posting it so I was wondering if there's anything I could do to have these removed from their page (e.g. a report of some of kind)?

This artis has released an album that gets lots of playtime (even appeared on my Discover Weekly):

They only have a single and an album from 2025.

But - there is already a group with the same name that has been dropping music since 2022.

They are clearly not the same artist/group - yet the new  AI-generated music is pushed by Discover Weekly.

Spotify - you have a responsibility in this. You can not just blame AI and algorithms.

Personally I have quit using Discover Weekly, since I do not care what music a computer comes up with. I am in music for the actual human creativity and artistry, not artificial mockery. You are making your platform into a dumping ground for fake artists and music. This group even has a mark for "verified artist" which just reduces Spotify's credibility.

PS. Please do not ask me to contact such and such or send a complaint to someone. Do it yourself.
