(Smart Shuffle) Bring back the one click plus sign to add a song to the current playlist

It used to be when you had Smartshuffle turned on when listening to a playlist and a song played that wasn't in your playlist you could just click the plus sign to add it. Now when you click the plus sign it just adds the song to your liked songs. To actually add it to the playlist you have to click the plus sign again and choose your playlist in the pop up window. The drag handle on the pop up window is so high on the screen that half the time when trying to close the pop up it brings down my notification shade for my phone instead. It's so annoying. It was much better the way it was previously.

Agreed, it's so high that I have to try and slide at least 3 times to close the panel - ultimately making me change the way I hold the device...

Not the best when curating laylists

Hi Jenric1007

HI trigger_rombi

One click to select a track. Then click on the selected playlist. Then you have to open the playlist and move the new track in the desired position.

On your desktop your can bypass steps and place the song in the exact position to your desired playlist with the wave of your mouse. Just like you can copy files from one drive to another, by opening both drives on your desktop, then dragging and dropping a file to the desired drive.

In Spotify you do the same thing, just with multple Spotify windows open on your screen. ( Note: I normally use the web app for the source playlist. If the playlist isn't mine, when I send a track to my own playlist, the green check appears as soon as I drop the track).

It doesn't have to be one track at time either.

  • You can click on one track to select it, then shift+(down arrow) to highlight a block, or
  • You can click on the first track and scroll to the bottom of your desired selection (using your mouse wheel NOT the side scroll bar). Then when you shift+ctrl+click, on the last track, the whole block will be highlighted, or
  • You can ctrl+click to select multiple tracks that aren't next to each other

Then you can drag and drop the track/s from playlist A to playlist B open in another window. Just like you do when moving files from one drive to another.

This is a playlist curators best friend. It's a function that no other music streaming platform can do,

[In the first image I have selected the tracks to send. The second image shows them in the desired playlist]

I think we're both pointing out the issue on smartphone devices - not desktops

The panel is definitely difficult to close and this is having a negative impact on my experience at least - it's just not user friendly.

In the previous version you'd close the panel by pressing a button in the bottom part of the screen - easy access for thumbs, sparing you the hassle of having to change the way you hold your phone.

I usually go quickly through new albums and decide after a few seconds of listen,if I want to heat more and in which playlist. The new panel has made this experience tiresome (3 attempts to close it cause I can't slide all the way through without moving my hands is just annoying!)

Please hotfix this spotify. Its a major downgrade for adding songs to playlist on smartphones

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out on the Community! As we're seeing that this post is gaining some attention, we've moved the thread to our Help section so we can look into things further 🙂

To confirm, are you still experiencing this behavior when adding Smart Shuffle suggested songs using the '+' button?

Should that be the case, it would be great if you could let us know:

  • Make, model & OS version of your device.
  • Current Spotify version.
  • Are the Smart Shuffle tracks added to Your Liked songs instead?

Keep us in the loop!

——-edit——— somehow theres multiple treads where my own was moved into a bigger one, so its hard to keep track of what tread i get notifications on, hence answer in, sry about that Maria

i think you moderators/spotify staff must read the treads properly, so you can see that this is the 3th or 4th different spotify staff, that comes in from the side, acknowledge the attensions, but kinda put in some standard answers of do this and that, when in fact it is because of a recent update, and we as spotify users are very dissatisfied with adding songs to playlist are very bad in its functionality now. Its not about updating to some new version or asking what our device is. This is a programing decision to remove the “add songs to playlist button on smartphones atleast” and it outragious that we arent beeing told that a fix is comong very soon. Its absurd, and i am very dissatiesfied that such a drastic change made it live.

Please view here this thread with 50+ responses explaining how the new add-to-playlist panel:
1. Doesn't successfully add 1 song to multiple playlists successfully
2. Has an unpractical and unreliable swipe mechanism to close the panel.

Thanks for responding @Floura.

We went ahead and renamed the thread a bit in order to add some clarity. We'd like to mention that currently, the expected behavior would be that by clicking the plus button, Smart Shuffle adds recommended songs to the current playlist and not to Liked Songs. As we're seeing a few reports about a different app behavior, we'd like to investigate it a bit more in this thread.

In the meantime, we'll keep looking into the issue with adding a song to other playlist(s) in the other thread that @trigger_rombi already linked in their comment

Hope this helps clarify the situation a bit and don't hesitate to let us know if you've got any questions 🙂
