My Question or Issue

Discover Weekly being terrible and seems not responding my activities for months

  • Discover weekly keeps giving some weird folk music and dreampops and I rarely listen to those genres. And I tried every methods (And yes I kept LiStEnInG My FaV sOnGs AnD pLaYlIsTs ) I could find to train the algorithm to make it better and it just ignores it.
  • The hide button is not working at all. Hidden songs and artists are very likely appear again next week.
  • My listening and save activities seems not count. I’ve been listening and liking to J-indie, Cantopop and Italian songs last 2 weeks and DW still give me weird folk music. The responsive is worse than my YouTube recommendations

Thank you Discover Weekly, for disappointing me every Monday.

My Question or Issue

Hello Spotify,

ive been using your services for several years, and let me just put it straight; I’ve been recommended the SAME songs in almost every daily mix, and other playlists that is supposed to give me some kind of variations. My discover weekly playlist mostly shows me the most random songs, example meme/joke songs or Russian drill (which I NEVER listen to)

It’s really sad to see that these inaccurate recommendations being given to several other friends and colleagues.
id be really happy if you could help me in advance, so that I hopefully can continue my membership with Spotify.

Thanks in advance

Best regards.

I've flagged this problem to Spotify years ago but they are doing absolutely nothing to fix this issue. Time to cancel my subscription.

this is not a reply/solution. Again, why is Spotify not providing a fix for this issue that has been reported years ago?

Isn't this a little off.

Should Spotify priortize music you actually indicate that you like more than any other variable?  What's the deal here?

Over the past 8 months my discover weekly has been truly awful. Previously, it was working quite well for many years. Now, if I have time to sift through audio I can't stand, then I'm left with 10-20 that I can ever bear.

These playlists used to be so helpful a year ago and would accurately suggest music I like (usually EDM or something that I was listening to). Now the algorithm it is putting in brown noise, asmr, and even random sexual noises (I kid you not, this happened a few weeks ago). I think this might be because I use rain sounds every night on my phone and it completely broke the suggestions or something? please help me get this feature fixed - it was one of my favorite Spotify features.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a huge fan of Spotify's Discover Weekly for years. It used to be spot-on, and I couldn’t wait to see what gems I’d discover every Monday. But lately, the quality of the recommendations has significantly dropped. The playlist often feels generic, leaning towards mainstream tracks that don’t align with my eclectic music tastes at all.

What’s frustrating is that I have an extensive library of saved songs and playlists – all of which should provide plenty of clues about what I like (and what I don’t). But instead of giving me unique and exciting music, Discover Weekly is starting to feel like it’s "phoning it in."

I also heard that Spotify has recently made some cost-cutting measures and let go of staff. Could this be affecting the curation process? Has the human touch been reduced in favor of an algorithm-only approach? And if so, could this explain why some of us with more niche tastes aren’t getting the same level of personalized discovery anymore?

I’d love to hear if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. Do you feel like Discover Weekly has gotten worse recently? If so, what do you think the cause might be?

Also, if you’ve found any workarounds to improve your recommendations or have tips for "training" the algorithm to get better again, please share!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers!
Stefan/Germany

My Question or Issue

This issue has already been reported multiple times by various users. My Discover Weekly playlist has been completely broken for two weeks now.

Instead of the genre I usually listen to—which is hard to define since it’s a blend of electronic music and other genres—I’m only getting Spanish dance/rap music. Just by looking at the playlist, it’s clear that it was generated for someone else.

In previous reports, the same sequence of events occurred: an email notification about unusual activity, an automatic password reset by Spotify, and then a broken Discover Weekly. In my case, it happened the same way, but I also contacted support immediately after noticing the issue, so the password reset process was carried out twice.

I’ve unlinked the only app I had given access to a long time ago (Wrapped 2018). My play history is clean—there are only the songs I’ve listened to, and nothing has changed. No new songs have been added to my playlists, no new playlists have appeared, and I’m not missing anything. It seems that internally, the algorithm is pulling listening history from someone else’s account.

To be clear, this isn’t a threat, but I am seriously considering canceling my subscription because Discover Weekly has always been the core feature of Spotify for me. I’ve been using it for years and have built a long playlist based solely on the recommended songs. Now, the one feature I checked every week is polluted with a completely different genre, and it’s not "correcting" itself, as this is the second time the list has become unusable.

Even if we assume that my account was indeed hacked, why would it suddenly produce a completely different genre? How is it possible that one incident could override years of listening history? To me, it looks like some kind of bug.

I want to report my experience (someone responded but didn't give me solutions, only the same advice). My problem is not so similar to yours, but it's still irritating: it's been 3 weeks now that in the Discover Weekly i got a lot of literally uknown bands and artists. I listen to a lot of classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal (mainly old school but not only), also punk, pop punk, sometimes old school rap, electronica, soundtracks... that's it. In fact no problem with the music i get, and finding new music is ok, but in the Discover Weekly there should be not TOO MUCH new and unkown acts, with songs released this year (or in 2024). They should go to Release Radar... i'm posting my original post, with updating that trying to "educate" my DW i'm disliking all that's too obscure and that's not truly sticking to what i like. It's an absurd situation, i got Spotify since late 2017 and i regularly check my DW every monday, i had troubles with blocked artist, i had DW with less than 30 songs, but there was always a good selection of well known bands (that i don't listen too much, that's the point)... now almost all unknown, i think they pay to be in the DW.

My Question or Issue

Hi everyone, in the past few weeks my Discover Weekly has been increasingly filled with groups/artists I've never heard of and very recent. Now, I like to discover some new artists, but as long as they are 5/10 it's fine, but not when they are like 27/30. To be broad, I will have met 5 of these artists. For me the Discover Weekly is not just discovering new artists, but also pieces of more or less famous artists that I have never heard or that I listened to years and years ago, which for better or worse always worked until the past few weeks. So honestly it doesn't really have anything to do with anything. I hope you can do something. My account is this and this is my DW (you can see for yourself that it is almost all unknown people). Please solve, I stay with Spotify for the DW...
