Introducing Smart Shuffle! 

We know that our users love creating their own playlists to capture key moments in time – in fact, playlists created by users often become their most-streamed playlist for the first several months but listening to these playlists slowly fades overtime, and users are eager to discover new music.

With this in mind, we’re excited to launch a new play mode called Smart Shuffle that keeps listening sessions fresh and provides personalized recommendations that perfectly match any listeners’ playlist vibe. 

This update will roll out to Premium users on mobile devices starting today.

How does Smart Shuffle work?

• You can use it in any playlist created by you, and your Liked Songs.
• To activate it, just use the Shuffle button to switch between regular play, Shuffle mode and Smart Shuffle.
• When Smart Shuffle is on, recommendations are added to your session automatically. You can find all the recommendations sitting in your queue.
• You will be able to recognize the music we are recommending with the sparkle (✨) symbol next to the track. For a playlist with more than 15 songs, we’ll recommend one song for every three tracks.
• And the best part, your original playlist remains untouched, so you can add any new track that catches your ear.
• If you like a specific recommendation, just save it using the plus button in the Now Playing View. If that song doesn’t hit right, just tap the minus to remove it from the recommendations. This is then used to better adjust the suggestions we put forward.
• Every time you turn Smart Shuffle off, a new mix will be available every time you activate it again.

What about the Enhance feature?

For now, Smart Shuffle will replace the Enhance feature.

What will happen to Discover Weekly and other regularly updated playlists?

For the time being, no changes to those will be made. Smart Shuffle aims to improve the listening experience for user curated playlists.

Does this mean that using Smart Shuffle will cause my carefully curated playlists to get cluttered with new recommendations?

No! Your original playlist remains untouched, so you can add any new track that catches your ear. Smart Shuffle won’t change your playlist without your explicit permission. What changes instead is what you'll hear during each specific listening session

I've never hated anything more in my life than I do Smart Shuffle.  It's so cringe that it cannot be turned off.

I can´t seem to deactivate smart shuffle
I click it once - it says Smart Shuffle deactivated BUT the damn suggestions are still in the wait list
I click it twice  - shuffle is deactivated and the playlist is in line...

We have been requesting this get removed or relocated for over a year now and nothing has been done. Combine that with the current absolute failure of the the app right now and it’s almost like you’re purposefully killing it. Do something.

Spotify has engineered the app to feel like it's convenient enough but also rolled out many tiny steps that add up which distract or coerce you away from your original intention with the app and towards what their goals are for your use. Enshittification. Using an iPod classic is such a surprisingly refreshing experience in comparison. Most of these forum threads go unresolved (note: I didn't say unanswered, bc they have employees pretend to care). It isn't because Spotify is stupid or have a HUUUGE backlog of features that delays undoing "that new stupid feature they just implemented poorly" by YEARS, it is because the user is not the one they are designing for. They are designing the app for the goals of investors/profit/overhead reduction. It's unfortunate but it makes a lot of sense when you consider how long we've been screaming in the forums "hOw r U sO DuMb ThAt U dEsIgNeD iT tHiS PoOrLy??!!?" They're not dumb; they're just greedy and uninterested in the users' needs.

I really hate this "feature" with a burning passion. I never, EVER want Spotify to mess with my playlists without me EXPLICITLY asking for it. Why the H-E-L-L is there no way to permanently disable it in the settings for those of us who never want to use it?

I know people really despised this feature, and that it was a horrid decision on your part (Give me it back. I loved it)... And also why the **bleep** would you lock your worse feature behind premium, and not give them a setting to disable it? Do you hate the people that pay for your stuff? Anyways I still love it please give it back and keep it disabled by default in settings. Shame other people hate it since I loved it, apparently it was horrible but I must've been really lucky with the suggestions since I got introduced to some of the best artists I've heard in a while.

still super annoying it's not possible to disable it all together. all updates in recent years were just for the worse. if it keeps going i'll look for a different player

Umm. Please remove this feature.  No one wants it.  Or, make it so it's not the default shuffle option.  Everyday I've gotten in my car this week and it's playing songs I never selected.  Just stop making horrible changes to the app. It's making me want to stop subscribing and find other means to listen to music.
