My Question or Issue

I have to type slowly when I search my library because otherwise the app freezes and the cursor moves all the way to left before all the text I've typed and then doesn't allow me to type any further. Also, I have to force quit the app. Even when I try to close out of the app it keeps playing.

Hey @BurntFlame,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

That's an odd behavior. To start investigating this case, and if you haven't tried before, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article, as this process will replace any damaged files stored on your device and ensure you're running the latest version of the app.

If the issue persists, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be device-related or not.

Lastly, include in your next response the exact OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be on the lookout.

Sorry for the late reply. I tried the clean reinstall and the issue is still persisting.

My version of Spotify is 8.9.58.572

My version of Android is 14.

Some additional information I should add about the problem is that it only occurs when I am adding a song to a playlist and searching for the playlist with the search bar (after I click the "+" icon with a circle around it that lets you add the song to your liked songs or other playlists). The problem doesn't happen when I'm searching my library normally (as in when looking for a playlist to play), it only happens when I'm searching my library while adding a song to playlists.

If I wait several minutes the app will unfreeze.

Also, some words I search with are routinely problematic. Whenever I type "rock" and then try to hit space, the cursor moves to the start of the search bar and the app freezes (but the music keeps on playing). Hitting space usually causes errors, but there's been exceptions to this.

Hey @BurntFlame,

Thanks for the details!

It'd be great if you can send us a screen recording so that we can have a closer look. If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

Does this happen in the desktop app and Web Player as well or is it just in the mobile app? Have you tried @OscarDC's suggestion to ask someone to log in their account on your device and check if they're experiencing the same?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Here's the screen recording I just made: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L866_WjnUVzwVl9TNgCCF7n4GWxDmnN8/view?usp=sharing

I've tested the problem to see if it would happen in the web player and it didn't happen. I haven't tested it on the destop app, but I can download it if you'd like me tot est it there as well. I haven't tried the suggesgion to ask someone else to log into their account on my device yet because so far the people I've been in contact with don't use Spotify, but once I run into someone I'll have them try.

Thanks again for helping!

Appreciate the cooperation @BurntFlame!

To both test if it's a device or an account-related issue, it'd be great if you could do the following:

  • Download the app on another device and log in with your account.
  • In the app on the phone, if you don't have a friend or a relative to ask them to log in, you can instead create another separate Spotify account for testing.

Lastly, if you're using an SD-card on the phone, please remove it and clear the cache which if corrupted, may cause performance issues.

We'll be on the lookout 🙂
