MP3's/ Downloaded songs stop working

Whenever I upload an MP3 to spotify and put it into a playlist it seems to work just fine, but only for a few weeks. Inevitably the mp3 greys out from my playlists, refuses to play regularly unless I select it myself, then inevitably stops being available altogether. Usually I'm told to just reinstall which, yes, does fix it, but only for it repeat the disappearing song problem again.

It's been years and I can't figure out a solution.

Hi there @Salgeth,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

Can you confirm if you followed these steps when you reinstalled the app? This is different from a quick reinstall and could be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Another useful step in is to change the source folder of the local files on the pc. The steps are: Uninstall Spotify on both devices > create a new folder somewhere else on the pc and move the local files there > install Spotify again > remove any potential source folders and add the new one > download the playlist again.

Let us know how everything goes 🙂

Take care!

Thank you for the advice. I've followed all of your guidelines and have started again, so far it seems to work but only time will tell. If it acts up again I'll give you an update, thanks! 🙂

Hello, Just wanted to update that it's once again decided to stop acknowledging my MP3's, It lasted a good 6 months longer than normal this time but it's begun the process again.

Hey @Salgeth,

Thanks for reaching out again to the Community!

As you say 6 months is a good while of time, in between there were multiple updates of the apps, so could you inform us about your current app versions on all used devices (also the make and model of your devices alongside their OS versions)?

There were also recent improvements in the Local files feature for Android users, so it' could be also worthwhile to revisit the clean reinstall steps above and make sure you are rocking with the latest versions of the app. Then, in settings, make sure you've activated Local File Discovery by toggling "Show local audio files". This will enable the new feature which provides continuous monitoring of device folders to detect playable audio and enable entry point in Your Library. In Your Library then you can see the Local files entity to see all your tracks.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
