My Question or Issue

My likes keep disappearing from songs, randomly. It's something like if i like new songs, older likes removed. Are the number of likes are limited?

Hi @Sherlox,

Thanks for reaching out about this here and welcome to the Community!

We can confirm that a track that has been re-uploaded may not appear to be liked on the artist page or other playlists, even though you have another version of the track in your Liked Songs. To check if that's the case you can see if the URI of the songs are different.

That said, the original tracks should still be saved in Your Library, so this doesn't explain why you are suddenly missing that many Liked Songs.

In this case, as we're unable to look at your account in more detail here on the Community, we suggest sending you a private message with how to proceed, so this can be investigated further by the right folks. How does that sound?

If you agree, make sure to enable the Private Messenger and give us a shout once you’re ready.

We’ll be watching out for your reply.

Hi everyone,

If I'm not mistaken we are discussing two separate issues in this thread.

The first is likes completely disappearing (with the counter in the Liked Songs playlist decrementing). This didn't happen to me since I last posted here.

The second is the one investigated by @NoMouse (great investigation work by the way!), which keeps happening to me as well.

I think there is a pretty simple fix that could be implemented if the planets align, which would require Spotify's backend to replace the ID of the old version of the song with the newly uploaded one (assuming there is a way to know when a song is re-uploaded, because if artists have to disable the old one & create a new track this probably won't be possible) in the Liked Songs and in every playlist.

This way we would see the new song as liked when we play it, and we would avoid liking it twice when playing tracks from our playlist.

Yeah, I also later realized that this is likely two issues because if the songs are still present in the Liked Songs playlist, then the number of likes should stay the same. But that clearly wasn't the case for you and and some other users.

I don't think the songs are disabled and recreated from scratch completely, leaving no link between them. The mobile history basically proves this, as it shows the new version of the song without the like even if you played it from the Liked Songs. Second proof are the screenshots in my previous post where the web browser is showing old album art (and name) and the desktop client showing new album art while playing simultaneously.

So there has to be some link between them. Meaning there has to be a way to fix this. The only question is how easy or hard it is to implement.

I also assume the songs aren't re-uploaded completely (or at least not always), I think all it takes is a small change to the basic info about the song (like release year) and that alone causes the ID to change. This is just speculation though. But it would explain why it happens to so many songs.

Hello,

This is happening to me too, I'm losing hundreds of liked songs. I've already tried to reinstall the app but it keeps happening. The songs are still uploaded since they are not disappearing from other playlists of mine. Have you been able to find any solutions?

to spotify support, your responses are worthless. Basic troubleshooting with zero effort to address the actual issue. Spotify support has admitted in multiple threads that ditributors re-adding songs the "wrong" way is the cause. The old "version" doesn't exist and the new "version" is not automatically liked. This is a database issue. I've had this issue for years. Why have you not fixed it? WHAT IS BEING DONE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?

I included a screenshot from another thread from TWO YEARS AGO. And this is still an issue? obviously on regard to end user's QOL. I think i'm done with Spotify. What an embarrassment to completely neglect your long time users

Its still happening to this day, if the problem is really that some songs can be reuploaded at least the app should notify me about changes in my liked songs or playlists to know that its not a bug

I'm currently dealing with the version of this issue where the song stays in my liked list, but doesn't appear as such/is treated as if it isn't. It seems to pertain to particular artists for me, entire albums' worth of songs lose the liked status. In my most recent case, seven out of nine albums lost all their liked songs for me.

Adding the songs back, the app seems to act finnicky about it. The screenshots below show issues I faced trying to get liked songs back. I was hoping maybe this could provide some sort of intel. The first issue I faced is songs getting added back to my liked list from the wrong album. I opened the deluxe edition of this album, but liking songs from there put the version from the original release and even a compilation album there instead. I underlined the tracks in question.

Opening the album from the albums section in the artist page instead of the liked list seemed to fix this. However, half the newly liked songs ended up tied to their irrelevant counterpart. (I'm going to try to explain this the best I can, please bear with me.) This image compares the irrelevant version of the album in my liked list (left) to the songs that are liked when clicking the album it's linked to (right). Any song seen liked in the album at this point will be removed at the same time as the new one. For example, when I unlike the old version of the song Fake (seen liked on the right), the new version is unliked in tandem. However, the new version of Trouble (seen unliked on the right) is not removed when I unlike the old.

To resolve that, I figured I just had to unlike the irrelevant version first and then add the songs back. However, on the next album, the selective liking problem happened again, which I noticed (and this only took effect) after I took the screenshot below. A unique problem on this album, I re-liked the three underlined songs at the top, and the bottom three that are underlined were liked at the same time. Unliking them does this same thing. When I checked back in my liked list, the alternate versions weren't there.

When I reentered the album, the image below is what it looked like. Re-liking the unliked songs seen below caused it to clone again. This  may have been caused by an error on my part, as unliking all the songs again and opening the album through the artist page and re-liking again worked fine.

I hope anything I said here makes sense, and I hope it can be of any help resolving this issue.

Just noticed an entire artist was removed from my liked songs...I didn't realise until I thought..."hey, I haven't heard that song in a while"
