Playlist Order not syncing

Playlist Order not syncing

Ever since I started using Spotify, I've had a very annoying problem. I created some playlists on my smartphone and made a custom order. When I bought a PS5 and logged into Spotify, I noticed that the order of my songs in my playlists was completely wrong. I've since bought an Apple Watch and a PC, and they have the same problem.

Only on the iPad I recently bought everything is right.

And btw the wrong orders of the other devices are all identical and the same goes for the webplayer. I‘m not shure if they are stuck on an old version or complely random.

This problem has been bothering me ever since I started using Spotify, and I am so tired of reading that I should check whether offline mode is enabled, install the latest update, or log out and back in.

I'VE ALREADY DONE THESE THINGS. WHY ARE THESE PLAYLISTS NOT IDENTICAL, AND HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

Hey there  @Andi555

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!

Just to confirm, does this happen with all your playlists or only with some specific ones? If it doesn't happen with all of them, could you let us know if the affected ones are large or small playlists?

On another note, would you mind creating a new playlist with a few songs on your mobile and try changing the songs' order while the app on one of the affected devices (for example your PC) is open too? Make sure to sort that playlist on both by Custom order

Keep us posted.

Hey,

thanks for the quick answer. I've now taken a closer look at my playlists and discovered that it doesn't affect all playlists, but mainly larger ones with 80+ songs.

I don't remember the exact creation date, but I suspect it mainly affects older ones.

I also created a test playlist, and everything actually worked there, the songs were all synchronized and displayed in the correct order.

Hey @Andi555

Thanks for getting back to us!

Since the issue only happens with older playlists, it might be related to how the app syncs sorting data for those specific playlists. In this case, would you mind trying the following?:

On one of the affected playlists, reorder a few songs on the mobile app > wait for a few minutes, then check if the change appears correctly on another device (like your PC or PS5) > if the order doesn't update, try copying the songs from the affected playlist (you just need to tap the three dots > Add to other playlist > New playlist) and see if that duplicated playlist syncs correctly.

This will help us determine if the syncing issue is tied to the original playlist itself or to the syncing in general.

Let us know how it goes 🙂
