Queue re-shuffles when adding songs to playlist

Please try to find a way to stop it happening. I do not want a new queue every time I add a new song to the playlist playing.

Hi there, @Vedvaengr,

Thanks for reaching out! Heads up: I've moved your post to the Help board as this doesn't match the expected behavior and we'd like to investigate further.

Could you give us a bit more info about the device this behavior is occurring with? Does it happen while listening on an external Bluetooth/Wi-Fi speaker?

If you have Smart Shuffle toggled on, check if disabling it makes a difference. It's also worth performing a clean reinstall of the app - this will rule out any potential issues with corrupted cache and ensure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

Let us know how it goes 👍

I have been experiencing this same issue, typically when I am using smart shuffle and i enjoy one of the songs it adds to my queue so I put it in my playlist and it ends up completely wiping my queue and resetting it. I add the song to the playlist that I'm currently shuffling from.

Hey @lemii,

Thanks for joining the conversation!

Just to confirm, is it only happening with Smart Shuffle on? Have you tried performing a clean reinstall of the app as instructed above?

If this doesn't help, could you let us know the make, model, OS version and the Spotify version of the affected device(s)?

We'll be on the lookout.

I have not tried a clean re-install, however the reason being is that this happens both on my PC and on my mobile device, so I'm not sure If a reinstall would help. If you truly believe it would, I will try.

Furthermore, this does only happen while smart shuffle is enabled, I have attached a short video to showcase the issue.

It seems that using the button specifically made for adding songs to --current playlist-- via smart shuffle, will re-shuffle the entire queue. But, if you instead use the "Add to playlist > --selected playlist--", It works as normal, although putting that song at the top of your current queue automatically.

My Spotify version on PC is

Spotify for Windows (64 bit) - Windows 10
1.2.83.461.g4d9c3dae (latest)

And for my phone is version 9.1.24.1739 (latest)

Hey @lemii,

Thanks for your reply and for the additional info!

We were also able to reproduce the issue you've described on both mobile and desktop and have reported it to our tech folks for further investigation. We'll let you know as soon as we hear back from them and have any news to share, but make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates in the meantime.

Having this same issue May 2026- Is there any sort of update to why this happens, or when it will be fixed?

Yep, I'm having the same issue in May 2026 as well. Please fix this service ASAP.

I’m having similar issue to lemii except when I click add to playlist button (+), the queue after the song finishes goes straight into recommended music instead of finishing the playlist on smart shuffle.
I am on version 9.1.48.1659

Hey folks,

We've had a closer look at this and can confirm that adding a Smart Shuffle recommendation to your playlist via the (+) button will reload the queue in order to give you the freshest recommendations and shuffle order based the song you just saved. We’re regularly looking for opportunities to enhance the user experience for everyone though, so your feedback on this is greatly appreciated - thanks for sharing it here.

We've seen some rare cases where all recommendations would disappear after saving a track to the current playlist and while we're unable to provide an ETA for a fix at the moment, rest assured this is something that will remain on our radar.

In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.

The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
