Recently played artists not updating

Recently played artists not updating

The Recently Played Artists feature on profiles that have it turned on has not been updating in over 24 hours. This has been an issue in the past, especially toward the end of 2024, and a thread here was even put into the ongoing issues forum. That thread has been closed and marked as resolved as this feature has been functioning like normal for several months.

Thanks for posting in this thread!

As we're seeing a few new reports about Recently played artists not updating, it would be great if you could send us the following:

  • The make & model of your device(s).
  • Current OS version.
  • Exact Spotify version.
  • Does this happen at any specific points? For example - when listening to certain artists or when in a Private Session, using the app in Offline Mode, or when skipping tracks before the end.

Feel free to include any troubleshooting steps you've tried as well. We'll pass these details on to the right folks!

I have been having this same issue. It hadn't been updating since March 11th, and now the page won't even load.

Hi there, folks @ceecee17 @melissad3.

Thanks for reaching out and reporting this.

Can you try logging out and logging back in twice in a row to see if it makes a difference? Also, can you let me know when you noticed the issue resurfaced for you? Lastly, could you check if this happens on different devices as well?

Keep me posted on how it goes!

Not sure why the issue is happening all over again. Back in sept 2024 the issue happened where recenttly played artist would not update. Now its taking time to update like why. Paying for it and this happens

Hey @melissad3! Thanks for reporting this.

Have you had a chance to try the steps mentioned above? If the issue came up again, let us know when it happened and if you’re able to replicate it on another device too.

Keep me posted!

Hello!

For some reason, my top artists, top songs and recently played doesn't update when I play music on the PC although it still does updates on the phone. I am not playing in private mode and even after reinstalling, nothing happens.

Would be awesome if someone can help me!

The Spotify help on Twitter/X gave this same advice. It is not an issue with my device or my account. This can be seen on multiple devices with different people’s accounts. It started working again a few days ago but as of about 36 hours ago it started lagging by about 30 minutes and now it’s not updating again. I’m not asking for help on troubleshooting, I’m just letting Spotify know something is causing the feature to bug again. This has been an issue in the past and when it happened last year it took like 2 and half weeks to resolve.

my recently played artist isn't getting updated

spotify please pay keen observation on this issue

its gettin lethal

@SchizoidZ

I'm still having the same issue and I contacted Spotify support.
They were kind and tried to understand the problem, as always...

But after 30+ messages back and forth, there's still no solution - For now.
I guess we'll just have to wait for them to release a new version or address it directly.
On the Web Player, though, it seems to update regularly.

It started working again about 15 hours ago, updating in real time although artists played earlier in the day were lost and never appeared. It worked for a few hours, now it’s back to not working again.

My Question or Issue

Recently played artists on my and other user’s profiles are not updating. I notice this has been an issue off and on for a while now, but today it’s been hours without this section updating to show my listening history by artist.

What even is this app eh? Paying for it every month just to have recently played artist not being updated. This a  joke seriously like fix this thing up. Its annoying!!!!

I’m using app version 9.0.40.506. The issue is present on my iPhone (15 pro/ios 18.5), desktop (Mac - latest software), and web player. It doesn’t seem to be triggered by anything specific. It will work, then stop updating completely - full and partial listens.

It is not an account or device issue, it’s really frustrating when it’s treated as an end user issue for so long before you’ll investigate it as anything else. But to answer your questions, I have an iPhone 13 Spotify version 9.0.40.506. Artists are listened all the way through, not skipped, and no, I’m not in a private session or offline mode. Device has been restarted, Spotify has been uninstalled then reinstalled.

It is not just my personal profile that is not updating, it is anyone’s profile viewed who has a public profile. It is the same when I view my profile and other peoples profiles from other people’s accounts and devices. It has been happening randomly then working again, then stopping, then working again. It is currently not working. It’s been this erratic over the past week. It will sometimes completely stop working, then start the next day. Sometimes artists are lost during that time, or it will update several hours later (like 6+ hours after listening). Then it will start working fine for a few days. It worked fine over this past weekend and was working fine up to 24 hours ago, but it has not updated at all this afternoon (US EST).

.

Yes, thank you for saying this! They’re treating this like user error!

Everything I listened to today just updated all at once.

Once again it is not working this morning. Yesterday’s listening history all updated at once at around 5pm EST, then it was working in real time. It is back to not updating this morning.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

We understand where you're coming from. We've noticed that this behavior resurfaced and, as mentioned by @Maria, we'd like to investigate further to have a better understanding of what's exactly on your side. In that sense, it's important for us to gather as many details as possible.

@melissad3, @Ana109, @hazukilynch, @SchizoidZ, @Ahahawav, is this still happening on your devices? If yes, keep in mind we're gathering as much info as possible, so we can pass it along to the right team. If you haven't yet, please send us:

  • The make/model and exact OS of the affected devices.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running.
  • Does this happen when using specific features such as Private listening or Offline mode?
  • Does this happen when listening to certain artists/playlists or when skipping tracks?
  • A video recording of this behavior. You can attach the videos in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload them to YouTube or Google Drive and make them public, so we can watch them. Make sure we can see both your Recents and profile.

We really appreciate the time you took to let us know about this resurfacing. @ceecee17, @pepperbarks, we appreciate all your comments on the matter. If possible for you, it'd be great if you could send us a short video of this issue. It'd be awesome if in the video we could see your recent listening activity by going to your profile picture at the top-left> Recents. Then, go to your Profiles for us to better appreciate the recently played artists displayed.

Keep us in the loop!
