Simultaneously Adding Many Songs At Once (Error? Why?)

Simultaneously Adding Many Songs At Once (Error? Why?)

Hi, Spotify Team!!!

If you don't want to solve the problem, I would like my question about it to be answered.

Sometimes, when adding many songs at once, right after I finish adding them, not all of them show up in the playlist. Only a few are shown. And when I see this, I add them all over again, thinking they didn't add the first time. And then a message shows up, saying something like "You already have these songs in your playlist. Add again?"

Eventually, after a long while, they show up, all of them. But I'm wondering why that happens. Before they all appear, across all my devices, they appear to only have a little portion of the songs I put. Can you tell me about this? I'm a bit confused, and if you can, please tell me how to fix this issue.

Thank you

Hey there @31xavnjc6igm5pkczrfy,

Thanks for posting on the Community! Hopefully you don't mind that we moved your post to the Help boards as it fits better here.

What you're experiencing could actually be caused by a slight delay between the app and Spotify's servers. When you add a massive batch of songs at once, the system registers them in the background right away. This is why you get that "already in your playlist" pop-up message when you try again. It would indicate that the songs are there, but the app is just taking a moment to visually display them.

Since the app has to process a lot of data at once, the playlist can temporarily look empty or incomplete across your devices until everything fully synchronizes.

To help us get some clarity and pinpoint the exact cause, could you let us know a few details:

  • Is this happening on a specific device (PC, phone etc.) or does it happen everywhere?
  • Approximately how many songs are you trying to add at a single time?
  • Is this happening with a specific playlist?

In the meantime, consider also trying these steps:

  • Log out everywhere from the Account Page for a refresh.
  • Clear the cache within Spotify's Settings using the steps here (when it's corrupted it can cause different performance issues).
  • Try adding songs in smaller batches.

Keep us posted and we're here if anything else comes up in the meantime.

It's been happening everywhere, in my Google Chrome HP Chromebook, my
IPhone 13, and my Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet. I don't remember how many songs
I added all at once, but it could be somewhere around 100+. It's in my
playlist "All Songs Combined (Minus Aesthetic/Will/& Classical)", but this
isn't the first time it's happened. It's happened a few times before, too.

Thank you so much for reaching out, Ivelina!!!

Hi @31xavnjc6igm5pkczrfy,

Thanks for the reply.

It's most likely that it's the number of songs being added at once is the reason for the delay, as these changes can't be processed all at once. Could you test if adding a small number of songs (10 or less) works as intended and syncs correctly? If that works, then the quantity is the cause for this, so we recommend adding songs in smaller batches or at least giving the app some more time to process things if you're adding larger numbers.

Let us know how it goes.
