My Question or Issue
When sorting albums by release year from oldest to newest it makes the library not to work. The only way I could fix it was by uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify
Solved! Go to Solution.
Edit: I managed to reproduce the issue, it happens when sorting albums ascendingly by release date. My fix for the issue is to rename the Spotify folder in AppData/Local and hereby causing Spotify to create a new folder, somehow fixing the issue.
So yesterday on my Windows 11 PC I tried sorting albums by release date on the Windows app and since then the sidebar wont load. It shows an error "Something went wrong." alongside a Reload button, which reloads it but then shows the same issue again. The rest of the app works perfectly fine.
I tried the built-in Troubleshooting methods but nothing worked. Before trying a reinstall (and possibly having to re-download all my music) I wanted to ask: has this happened to anyone else? And what would be the fix?

Hey @waterblur, welcome to the Spotify Community! 🎵
Is it still happening or it's gone after you re-installed the app? 🙂
It still happens even after I re-install the app
Hey there @waterblur,
Thanks for your reply.
Could you let us know what exactly happens when you try sorting the albums by release year from oldest to newest in Your Library? We'd also like to know if it happens across devices or only on your PC.
Additionally, sending us some screenshots of what you see on your end would come in handy. You can attach them to your next response by using the Insert image option in the post editor. Make sure not to send any private info.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
This is a screenshot of the library when you sort it by album and order it by release date ascending
This is what happens @Eni
Hey @waterblur,
Thanks for following up with a screenshot!
Just to make sure we cover all bases, could you try resetting the app data to see if you notice any difference? To do this, click on the 3 dots in the top-left corner > Help > Troubleshooting > Reset app data and restart. It's worth disabling Hardware acceleration as well (it can also be found under Troubleshooting).
Should the issue persist, can you let us know if changing to a different grid (View as) cause the same error?
It would also be great if you could ask a friend or a family to log in to their own Spotify account on your PC, just to see if it behaves in the same way.
Let us know how you get on!
Resetting app data reverts still doesn't allow for me to view the albums by oldest to newest based on release date.
I also tried changing it to grid format and I still can't view the albums by oldest to newest.
I couldn't find someone else to try it with.
Hey there @waterblur,
Thanks for getting back to us.
You mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?
If the issue persists after following those steps, it'd be helpful if you could try with a different account. Since you let us know you couldn't find someone to ask to try this, we suggest creating a new account to test with. This will help us determine if the issue is account-related.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
I got a friend to order his albums from oldest to newest and he said it was fine. He uses Windows 10 and is a premium user
I did a clean reinstall and the problem still persists.
Hey @waterblur,
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for the confusion! What we meant is that you could ask a friend or create a new account and log in on your affected devices. This will help us check if the same issue happens with a different account, so we can tell whether it's related to your specific account or the devices you're using.
Also, just to double-check, can you replicate this behavior across all your devices? If so, sending us the exact Spotify version they're running would come in handy.
We'll be waiting for your reply.

My Question or Issue
My library crashes after sorting albums by release date in ascending order. This is an issue that has been occurring to me for I think at least a month, but I am currently on version 1.2.75.280.gb8d7ae93. I attached a screen recording which displays how it crashes. I can only get my library back by either resetting app data and restarting or fully reinstalling the app. Please fix this, thank you.
Reverse order Sort by Release date crashes the sidepane (Windows app).
Spotify finally implemented this feature: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Your-Library-Order-sort-albums-by-release-date-year/idi-...
Works perfectly, but don't try to reverse the order on the windows app. This will crashes the sidepane and only solution is a reinstall. It seems this shouldn't be an option, because on the Android app it will only sort form new to old.
Hey @brietman!
Thanks for reaching out.
Could you please share a quick video of the issue? I tried to reproduce it on my end, but no success.
Also, share with us the device's make and model, along with the OS and Spotify version you're using, so we can take a better look at what is happening on your end.
Keep me posted on how this goes!

Why has this app breaking issue not been addressed after nearly two months now?
Hey there @hazyy,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid repeating any steps. If you haven't tried the steps in this thread yet, we recommend that you do so including the ones in the post that was marked as a solution.
If none of them do the trick, sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your affected devices would come in handy.
Keep us posted.
My post that was redirected to this same thread explains what I've tried so far and the information you mentioned. Also, I don't understand how that post you linked is supposed to be a solution.
Hey @hazyy,
Thanks for the clarification and sorry for the confusion.
You mentioned that resetting the app data and restarting or reinstalling the app fixes the issue for you. Could you let us know if you have a large album collection in Your Library? Also, we'd like to know whether this crash happens every time you sort your albums by Release date (ascending), or only occasionally. It'd be helpful if you could check if you can replicate this issue with any other sorting option.
On another note, could you ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your PC to see if the same happens with their account?
We'll be waiting for your reply.
My library consists of around 1700 albums, the oldest of which dating back to the year 1955. To reiterate, my library without fail crashes every time I sort my albums by release date in ascending order on my desktop PC running Windows 11. This only happens for this exact sorting option and nothing else. The issue also persists no matter what list or grid view the library is presented in (compact and default list/compact and default grid). Lastly, it is important to note that I'm unable to replicate the issue on macOS and the feature works as intended.
