Spotify Automatically Removing Duplicate Songs When Shuffling A Playlist

Previously if you added a song to a playlist multiple times it played multiple times, as it should. It appears an update has changed this so that it’s not the case.

Now if you add a song multiple times and don’t shuffle it plays like normal, but if you add a song multiple times and shuffle your playlist it deletes extra copies.

I can’t find anything online about this or any way to turn it off. This ruins like half my playlist and severely effects my listening experience. I don’t want Spotify to auto delete or override songs on a playlist, I want to be able to add one song four times and actually have it play four times when I shuffle instead of once. 

I have spent hours on Spotify Support, and they were unable to fix this. In the end I was asked to place the feedback here for the technical team to review, I hope this issue can be resolved. It occurs with all playlists, songs, and devices.

We understand the sentiment and how this might not be the desired effect. We can confirm that Shuffle mode removes duplicate tracks from the queue to prevent accidental repetition to keep sessions more varied and fresh. If you’d prefer to hear repeated tracks, you can switch to linear playback.
