Spotify Wrapped Album Editions

Spotify Wrapped Album Editions

Hello!

This question is probably quite niche and seemingly unimportant but it’s bugging me quite a lot.

When Spotify Wrapped calculates your top albums, will different versions of albums be combined? For example, Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ - the album has the standard edition, the 3am Edition and the Til Dawn Edition. Will these count as separate albums or will they be combined? I have the same question with Deluxe versions of albums.

Hi there @dunbars,

Thanks for the post.

This is indeed a particular question and we won't be able to give an exact technical description of how the Spotify algorithm collects data to build your Wrapped, but it all depends on how songs were uploaded to Spotify and their track metadata.

In most cases, the app will try to consolidate your listening count from the different versions of songs from different album releases, but that might not always be possible, due to the way in which the content has been uploaded to Spotify.

For example, if we take the song "Lavender Haze", which is present in all versions of the album, that will count as the same song in Wrapped. Regarding the top albums, those will be calculated separately, as they are essentially different albums, even though they may contain mostly the same songs. Naturally, if you listen to a song that is only present in the "3 a.m. Edition", your listening will count towards that album.

Wrapped changes every year and our developers do their best to update the collection based on user feedback and to make it more personal for each release of Wrapped.

Cheers.
