why can't my friends listen to my playlist made from my local files?

why can't my friends listen to my playlist made from my local files?

It's 2022 and this still is not an option!

I made a playlist from my local files, made it public yet all the songs for him are greyed out?

Why is this not allowable?

Hey @Dene111,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sharing copyrighted music with other users would go against music copyright and licensing. Furthermore, local songs only work on a device on which they're downloaded on. So they'll work on your PC or your phone, but can't be streamed to other devices like TV/ PlayStation/ Smart Speakers etc.

We appreciate your feedback on this and have passed it to the right folks at Spotify who are working on making the user experience better, but we can't say for sure if sharing playlists containing local files would be possible in the future.

Hope this info helps. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.

dk what spotify is doing

I still hope they can fix this in the future.

So like I get the whole copyright thing but honestly it would be nice if you had a family system like the Microsoft store or Google Play where you can add up to so many people like 5 people or so to be in a family group. That would make it so the playlists which honestly may simply contain original independent tracks as referenced by KEVTAROT before, then the local files can be streamed and not downloaded among friends and family members and not be considered mass sharing of intellectual property. Maybe even restrict it to not full albums by cross referencing the lists with freedb or something. There are ways to do it but I also know its not JUST Spotify that needs to be ok with this but rather the various music labels as well since it is their IP anyway.
