15 second rewind changes episode

15 second rewind changes episode

Lately when I hit the 15 second rewind (or fwd) button when listening to a podcast it will take me forward an episode instead! If I hit it more than once, it will surf through that number of episodes. That’s while it’s playing. When it’s paused, the timestamp changes as it should but as soon as I hit play again it just restarts like I never rewound in the first place!

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you provide a short screen recording of the described experience?

Are you able to reproduce it on a different device or with a different account?

What's the Spotify app version you're using? We also need the brand/model and operating system of the current device.

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

My Question or Issue

For some time now (a few months) every time I try to use the playback controls while listening to a podcast, it results in the entire podcast skipping to the next one in the queue. If I hit the rewind 15 seconds button twice (doesn’t matter whether a few seconds between taps vs immediate double tap) it skips the entire podcast and goes to whatever it has randomly queued next. Same thing with the forward 15 sec button. I tried using the time head scrubber instead to work around, same thing happens. I have also in tandem had issues with the app remembering where I left off on the podcast before pausing so I have to use the buggy playback controls and it makes it nearly impossible to finish/resume a podcast. At first I thought this was just a bug with the latest app release and would be resolved but it has been multiple months and I have not been able to find others who have this issue online. The problem persists regardless of how I am playing the content (directly from my phone, direct control to another speaker, AirPods etc). This problem also persists across devices and platforms. It’s extremely frustrating and makes me regret switching over from Apple Podcasts.

Hi @Lunchbox120,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd recommend starting with a clean reinstall of the app on your device to check if you notice any difference. No worries, you won't lose any content, you'll just need to download your offline music again.

If that doesn't help, try logging in with a different account on your device and check if the same thing happens. It could be a family member or friend's account. Additionally, let us know if this happens when you try to play a specific podcast or with all of them. If it's just with one in specific, it'd be great if you could send us the link to it. You can do that by following these steps.

Lastly, would you mind sending us a video recording of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

My Question or Issue

For a while now I have had an issue with 15 second skip while playing podcasts to my Sonos and through headphones. Rather than skipping 15 seconds, it skips to the next podcast in my queue. I have seen that this used to he an issue in cars, I haven't noticed this while in my car though.

Hi, I’ve been having this same issue for months and finally came looking for an answer. When I’m listening to a podcast and hit either the forward or back button in rapid succession two or more times it jumps to a completely different podcast episode. And also these are podcasts I’ve never listened to before. It’s extremely aggravating. I think it happens mostly when I’m listening through Bluetooth to something else, ie my AirPods, Sonos, or my car. I’m not sure if it happens just listening on my decide.

I’m on the latest Spotify version (I always am on the latest version), my decide is an iPhone 14 Pro, and my current iOS version is 17.1. Again, this has been an issue for months. I recorded a video but it won’t let me attach the file - if you email my account I can sent the video.

I think this must be a bug so I hope it can be fixed.

Hey @charkee,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

To continue investigating this case, as requested before, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

It would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

Lastly, since you mentioned you've recorded a video, you can upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to watch it), and remember to include your exact Spotify version in your next response.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi, I don’t have another device to test on nor do I have someone who can log into my account to test. My current Spotify version is 8.8.82.607, but this issue has persisted for months and I always am up-to-date with app versions. I was able to compress the video smaller and have attached it.

Hey @charkee,

Thanks for the video.

We've tested this on our end using a Bluetooth device but were unable to reproduce the issue. Can you please check if it happens when playing directly from your phone's speaker?

Also, have you tested this with other podcasts than the ones you usually listen to?

Keep us posted.

Thank you so much for looking into this. It happens with Bluetooth playing both to Sonos in my house and in my car. It doesn’t happen directly from my phone’s speakers. It has happened with a number of different podcasts. It’ll jump to podcasts that I’ve never listened to before, that seem to be related to the podcast episode I was listening to.

Hey @charkee,

Thanks for your reply.

We've forwarded this to the relevant team here at Spotify, however, we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, please make sure to keep your app up-to-date.

Cheers,

I have this same issue on an Iphone 12 running IOS 17.0.3 and just had it happen using the desktop app using version Spotify for Windows (64 bit) - 1.2.24.756.g7a7fc7f0.  Additionally this is not just when using Sonos.  I have had it running on my iPhone when connected to my car.  Really close to switching back to using the native apple app.

Hey there folks,

Thank you for the reports!

This is currently being looked into and we'll keep you posted.

Cheers!

Thanks for the update. One other note, I realized I often listen to podcasts at 1.2x speed, so that is a variable in the context that this bug happens.

Hey @charkee,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Just to confirm, did you notice if this behavior persists if you change the speed to 1x? It'd be awesome if you could check. If you can replicate this behavior no matter the speed, please let us know.

We’ll be on the lookout!

Hi, I just checked this and yes the behavior happens both at 1 or 1.2x speeds. It happens both pressing the rewind button multiple times forward or multiple times backward.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

If you're still experiencing this, could you provide us with the following info?:

  • affected device
  • phone's make/model, and OS
  • exact Spotify version
  • video of the issue happening
  • troubleshooting steps you've already tried

We'll pass this info on to the right team to keep investigating.

We'll be waiting for your replies.

Hi, this issue is still happening and I have already provided all of this information above. Please see the comments above for my device, make / model, OS, Spotify version, and a video. I have tried many trouble shooting steps and the issue has been persisting for months. It occurs when pressing the 15 second forward or rewind button, pressing a few times in a row, then I’m playing a podcast through a Bluetooth device.

My Question or Issue

When I try to skip 15 seconds ahead in a podcast in the Spotify app, when connected to Sonos speakers via WiFi, it skips to the next song/podcast. This does not happen when I'm not connected to Sonos.

This has been happening for a couple of months.

Hi there @ksed1910,

Thanks for your reply in this thread.

Just to confirm, could you check if this happens when playing via Bluetooth to any other device? If possible, give it a try with headphones or a different speaker.

Now, so we can send the info to the relevant team, send over the Spotify version you have installed, and a recording/video of the behavior. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll be here.
