My Question or Issue

I do not stay logged in on the Apple TV app. Almost every time I use the app (it may stay logged in for a few hours), it asks me to log in and gives me a pairing code.

Hey folks!

 

Thanks for the patience with this.

The issue seems to be stemming from low space on the AppleTV that causes Apple to purge the data. Our tech folks are working on a possible fix for this.

For now, please make sure your storage has enough space.
Apple doesn't provide this info on AppleTV settings, so you can use this free application to understand how much storage you have left.

Same here! I've had this issue for over a year now. Please solve it!

Guys if 100 people have the same issue, this is called a bug. As much as you want to try for us to send cat videos and logs of our music tastes, this is a bug that has been going on forever.

The reason I don't use spotify on the Apple tv is simply one: everytime I want to use it I have to pair the Damn thing over and over.

The TVs firmware has nothing to do! It is a bug connect the Apple tv to your servers, plain and simple. 

If all apple tv apps were erasing the info then I'd understand but when only ONE app is doing it and doing it week after week then pls get your s**t together and work on a solution for a problem that keeps happening.

And yes I'm the latest versions of Tvos, iPhone, TV, etc.. Same as last time.

I have been having the same issue for a year as well, extremely frustrating and prevents me from using Spotify most of the time. Just started to try it again and still have to login. Their Apple TV app is pretty pathetic, watching Joe Rogan videos on it is absolutely absurdly poor, playback positions after pausing or not remembered, jump forward and back controls are iPhone controls and not design for a remote. The company this size cannot make a decent app for Apple TV!?!?

I’m also having the same issue and have had it for the last year or so since I bought my Apple TV and run Spotify there. Was never a problem on any other smart TV I’ve owned. I’ve been a subscriber for years, but this is getting really frustrating and a massive user experience problem for me.

 

I’m running the latest Apple TV, 4K model and software is up-to-date. This is the only app that’s having this issue.

I am logging in through Facebook so that might be an issue to look into

I also got this issue, and I'm THIS close to switching to Apple Music. You better be happy you have Spotify Wrapped, that's like the only thing keeping me from switching. Every time I open it, except if it was already open in a different tab and used recently, I have to sign in again with pairing code. It's incredibly annoying. It's been going on since I got my Apple TV half a year ago. Looking at this thread it's been an issue for a long time. How have you still not done anything about it? It's getting ridiculous. You're a billion dollar company, this bug shouldn't be that hard for you to fix. You could hire the best bug-fixer in the world and it would be pocket change for you. Start taking this bug seriously already.

As the OP, I'm somewhat thankful for these comments. I'm sad other people are dealing with this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one and that maybe I encouraged other people to chime in on this issue. 
I've given up on using Spotify on the Apple TV a long time ago. Just to clarify, this isn't something where I keep using Spotify on the Apple TV and just begrudge the inconvenience. this is something that prevents me from using it at all on the Apple TV. I just use it with Alexa anytime I want to listen to music in the house. It's too bad, because when I had Apple Music, it was fun to go on the TV and my kids and I just going through playing different songs, whether it was music I liked that I wanted them to experience, or fun or silly songs they would listen to. 

Honestly, from a marketing perspective, it would be smart to fix this. This is how brand loyalty occurs. If I'm listening to music on the TV with my kids, do they want my kids growing up listening to music on Spotify, or listening to it on Apple Music, or YouTube?

I’ve had this issue ever since I bought my Apple TV last year. I stopped using the Spotify app completely until about a month ago. Can’t get over this bug!

Given the pervasiveness (every install of the Spotify app on every model of Apple TV) and the duration (over 12 months in this state) of this issue, we users of the Spotify Apple TV app should start considering the possibility that this won't ever get fixed. There are a lot of reasons that something like this could go unfixed -- perhaps Spotify lost their one engineer who knew tvOS or maybe management decided to not invest any more resources into streaming device apps. Whatever the reason, after following this thread for some time I'm not particularly optimistic that this will be fixed any time soon.

 

Since it seems we're stuck living with this, I have had success using AirPlay to get music from my phone's Spotify app onto my Apple TV and larger sound system. I wish the Apple TV Spotify app worked for me because it is much more visually interesting than AirPlay but AirPlay does not require logging into Spotify repeatedly. AirPlay is using the phone's authentication with Spotify and Spotify has figured out how to not require you login every time on your phone.

When Adele tweeted about the shuffle on albums the problem was solved in minutes.

Can we get Adele to tweet about this problem as well? 😉

Seriously!  Can’t believe this is still happening every single time I open the app.  For now, I’m just using Apple Music since I get it with iCloud anyways.  Once Spotify can patch the bug, maybe they’ll get another shot, but it’s infuriating they claim to not be able to reproduce the issue when this thread clearly shows everyone is updated to the latest app/OS and no other apps do this.

I apparently am cynical enough to think it was Apple’s attempt to make Spotify annoying enough to use to funnel people into Apple Music subscriptions. 

I have many apps on my Apple TV, if I reset it, then I’ll need to add all of them back, go thru the laborious process of entering passwords and still not be sure the problem is fixed.  Frustrating

 

Same problem here for more then a year now. Good to read I’m not the only one. Bad that Spotify can’t fix this bug; it makes the app buggy and not likable.

My guess is that the app is working as intended. The repeated pairing ‘issue’ was probably something Spotify conceded to Apple since Apple’s Music app would otherwise be the native music streaming app. Been living through the inconvenience since the app debuted. Condolences.
