CarPlay very slow loading downloaded songs

CarPlay very slow loading downloaded songs

Using CarPlay, after clicking on a playlist, it takes more than 1 minute to have the songs displayed. Playlist has about 100 songs. Never had this behaviour before. Normally, the display is instantaneous on CarPlay. It is still instantaneous on the phone itself.

All songs downloaded of very high quality.

I also reinstalled spotify app, without success.

iPhone XR, iOS 15.3.1

spotify latest version : 8.7.8.1699

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your posts here.

I understand that this continues to be affecting some of you. As I've explained earlier, we'd much like to report this, but we need whoever's affected to post the details (the full list) I have requested in my previous post here. As soon as we've collect some meaningful data, be sure we'll pass it to the relevant teams who can dig deeper and investigate this situation further.

We hope this clears things up. We'll be keeping an eye out for your replies.

Seeing the same issue here on an iPhone 12 Pro (iOS 15.4.1 ) that used to work just fine with my premium account.  Noticed for the last couple of months or so that when I connect to CarPlay many of my playlists will either not load or take an extremely long time to do so.  Some connect instantly, including my longest playlist - my Liked List seems to always work.  But some short playlists spin seemingly forever so this does not seem to be related to number of songs in the playlist.

It seems most others that are seeing this are downloading songs to avoid streaming costs and that's the case for me too.  I also have "Cellular Data" turned off for Spotify in my iOS settings.  I'm wondering if everyone else experiencing this problem has done the same thing and maybe that's why only some of us are experiencing this issue?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies.

In order to report this to the right folks, please send us the make/model, exact OS version (if applicable) and Spotify version installed on your device. Additionally, you can send us the remaining details requested before by @Kiril.

We really appreciate this info as it's very useful to determine the root of the issue.

We'll be holding up.

Hi there
I have an iPhone 12 Pro running on 15.4.1. The Spotify version I have will be the one off the apple store and is updated to latest version.
Regards

Hey @Stuggybear1,

Thanks for your reply.

Could you send us the exact Spotify version you're running?

Lastly, let us know if this happens when logging in with another account and tell us if it started after any recent update.

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I am having the same issue. Obviously since all of us have just started experiencing the problem, it’s related to a Spotify update. We’re doing the troubleshooting and Spotify is doing nothing to fix the situation. Might be time to find another service! 😠

Hi, I would greatly appreciate any updates to this bug or any fixes in the pipeline @Spotify, i too am experiencing the 'please wait' issue when loading playlists. I have a 13 Pro Max on latest iOS as of current.

Just got the new carplay stereo installed today and I first thought there was something wrong with my stereo!

I am having the same/similar issue. Details about my setup:

  • iPhone 11
  • iOS 15.4.1
  • Spotify 8.7.30.1342
  • 2018 Honda Civic (USB-only CarPlay connection)

Issue #1:

  • Playlists/podcasts are downloaded to my iPhone
  • Phone connects to CarPlay and Spotify opens up
  • An attempt to open a playlist will result in the "Loading" screen posted by @aechong earlier and the playlist itself will not load

Issue #2:

  • Playlists/podcasts are downloaded to my phone
  • Phone connects to CarPlay and Spotify opens up
  • Podcast episode list in "Your Episodes" loads successfully when I navigate to it
  • Tapping on a podcast will open the player screen but it will read "Loading" & never actually load

Troubleshooting steps taken (none fixed the issue):

  • Clean reinstall of the app
  • Restarting phone
  • Restarting car
  • Updating app

What I found fixed this problem:

  • Play the track directly from the phone itself
    • The above two issues still persist if I try to switch tracks through CarPlay after starting the first one from my phone
  • Keep cellular data turned on and enable data for Spotify
    • This allowed playlists and podcast episodes to load up & for them to play
    • However, I noticed that Spotify was actually using data instead of using the downloaded version of the track so this is still an issue

Hi folks!

Would you mind letting us know if this affects only offline content?
And does the issue occur when you're using Wi-Fi or cellular data :?

@cSE84EFVt4, your troubles look cache-related. Please contact our support, have your cached data on Spotify's end checked for errors and let us know how it goes! 🙂
For everyone else who haven't posted these yet - we'd require the following infos from ya:

  • your device model & OS
  • your Spotify version

Thanks a lot.
Cheers!

@Vasil thank you for the suggestion. I reached out to support about the cache and everything seems fine. I had them clear the cache on their end but the issue is still persisting.

This has only impacted my offline content regardless of whether or not my phone is connected to cellular data. The issue also only occurs on CarPlay so I’m never connected to wifi.

Thanks!

Same issue here.

iPhone XR IOS 14.8

Spotify 8.7.32.1667

Same issue at my side:

iOS 15.5

Spotify 8.7.34.1624

I have a premium Spotify account and everything was functioning well with iPhone SE / iOS 14.8 and Apple Carplay, USB connected in off-line mode.  Suddenly, my playlists downloads stopped functioning so I installed iOS 15.5, re-booted my Mazda infotainment system, deleted and re-installed the Spotify app (Ver: 8.7.36) and the problem still persists.

I can view and scroll through downloaded songs on my initial picked playlist but any other playlists will not download.

Having to stop the car in order to choose another downloaded playlist from the phone instead of Apple Carplay is not an ideal solution by any means.  Please fix the problem that never existed beforehand.

Hey there,

Our tech team needs a little bit more information on your specific setup. Could you provide us the following extra bits of information:

 - the country you're in

 - the mobile carrier name

 - if the issue occurs, when you're connected to the nearest Wi-Fi network

We'll be on the look for your replies,

Cheers!
