Difference between app on iPhone and iPad

I had loved Spotify for a while when I used it on my iPad. After I got my new phone it was one of the first apps I installed but to my surprise it is so different from the iPad version to the iPhone version. Why are they so different? Why can't I choose what song to start listening to in a playlist and then why is there a limit on how many I can skip to get to the song I want to listen to? Very unsatisfied with the iPhone app. I even got rid of it a while because I don't like it and thought they would change it.
