Google Maps too quiet when using with spotify over bluetooth

I just got a new car (Subaru) without an integrated nav system. The only option is to use google maps on my phone in combo with playing music from the phone. The way the Bluetooth works, the stereo does not reliably fade to allow the driver to hear the map directions if listening to the radio. Unfortunately, spotify often will not fade to allow the Google maps directions to be audible. Or the Google maps directions will be even quieter than the faded spotify. Makes for very silent drives running only the GPS.

It seem this is an issue people have had, specifically with Android systems, and they managed to patch the problem by rolling back to a previous app version. Unfrotunately, that isn't possible with iOS. I've poked around and, unforuntaely, haven't been able to find a solution for this. It looked like the suggestions in the past were to post a fix in the Idea Submissions forum, so it may be prudent for you to find one of those old suggestions threads, and bring it back to the light, or, if you feel it appropriate, submit it anew. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
