How do I keep Spotify from timing out?

I'm playing Spotify Premium on an old Android cell phone.  I turned off the lock screen features and keep it plugged in, which, it seems, should be sufficient to keep the phone from cutting off the Spotify player.  However, after 80-90 minutes the player stops playing and needs to be restarted (by hitting "play").  My primary question is does Spotify automatically time out after a certain amount of time, and, if so, how long?  The secondary and more important question is how can I keep it from timing out?
