This is ridiculous. Every week or so it's another issue with the IOS app. First I wasn't able to sync my local files. Now with this new shuffle play feature, I can only listen to my local files on shuffle. Would Spotify rather I use itunes to listen to music. You guys need to get your stuff together over there. I would use the premium version of Spotify but the problem is they are missing most of the music I want to listen to.
This is a new feature and the spotify team are aware of some issues which should be fixed shortly.
thx
also. my premium account has lapsed but I have plenty of offline music in the app to see me thru until I can afford to upgrade again. except I can only listen on shuffle 😞
and looking forward to it being fixed
@ws1482 - Are you still having issues with this? Are you defintiely listening from the "Local Files" section at the top of your playlists (and not a playlist of Local Files)?
@aliceupnorth - Are those local files synched from your PC or Spotify tracks as offline playlists? If they are offline playlists, they will have been removed from your device when your account reverted to free so you can only listen to them using shuffle (streaming from Spotify) until you have premium again.

Spotify has become a horrible and frustrating app and I won't continue to pay for this frustration. Turn off shuffle and don't make me listen to music I have not selected myself!
I was listening to a playlist of local files but, even when I went to the local files section on the app it will still only allow me to listen on shuffle. I am sure they will fix it, it will just take some time

So, all my local files got dissapeared after i logged out and in (as spotify sugested), i cant select a specific song, only "play shuffle". After the update my premium ceased to work. This update turned the app to **bleep**. Get it together
Hey @Eilert ! Welcome to the community 🙂
It sounds like you might have accidentally created and logged into a duplicate account.
Try following the steps outlined in this post and see if they can get you back into your original account. If not, there is a link in that post to get in touch with the Spotify team directly and they can lend a hand.

They are local files. I can play them on shuffle with other Spotify music mixed in. Or I can go into Offline mode and listen to them (only) on shuffle. I cannot listen to my own music in the order they appear in the playlist, neither can I select tracks to listen to individually.
This is new behaviour for the app and I'm pretty disappointed by it.
If this is on iOS, can you not listen to local files on demand by going to the "Local Files" section in playlist view?

I'm having the same problem, and no, it you can't listen on demand in the local files playlist.
Also, if you try to add something to the Play Queue (including local files that you own), you get a message saying the Play Queue is for premium users only.
Edit: I tried re-installing spotify on my iPod - no luck. Now it won't let me change the syncing quality either, because it says downloading music isn't for free users. (I can still sync local files, just not change their syncing quality, so I'm stuck on Normal.)
iTouch 5, iOS 7.0.3, Spotify 0.9.1.230
Pretty sure local files ignore that sound quality option since they aren't being streamed. Definitely strange, let me ask about this.

Getting this to on Android, syncing a playlist that is just local files - can only shuffle play it, the app keeps complaining about offline playlists being for premium users, im not trying to use the premium features.
Can someone clarify whether or not you can still use local files (no streaming) as a free user?
I have escalated this to see if I can get an official response on this for you guys.

thanks. I've stopped using the spotify app for now and gone back to syncing my itunes music 😞
Same, currently using winamp =/
It behaves as if the app thinks you have streamed music in the playlist so therefore forces it to the offline / shuffle play mode but i've checked and double checked, this playlist is JUST local files.
you say "if" there is anything more to report, is that to say this might just be left like this?

Hey guys, thanks for reporting this.
This behaviour is something we're aware of and looking into.
We'll let you know if we have more to report.
Does anyone know if there has been any update to this? Still unable to use offline playlists with local files
