Non-Spotify Controls

Up until a couple days ago, I was able to control Spotify (fast forward, reverse, pause and play) with my car controls when using the app through Bluetooth. I was also able to control Spotify from the iPhone control center. Now, the only way I can control music playing is to go into the Spotify app and use the controls. This is dangerous when driving and defeats the entire point of using Spotify in the car. Not sure if this is an iOS issue or a Spotify issue but it almost makes me not want to use Spotify on my phone at all!
